Dr. Merzon graduated magna cum laude from Clark University in Worcester, MA where he received his B.A in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. While at Clark, Dr. Merzon was an active member of Clark EMS, a team of volunteer certified emergency medical technicians that responded to all medical emergencies on the university campus.
Dedicated to building a trusting relationship that patients can count on for many years to come. We are committed to making your appointments as easy and comfortable as possible. Every new patient is asked to fill out a comprehensive medical and dental health history form. Dr. Merzon uses these forms to carefully evaluate every patient individually, to allow for thorough diagnosis and treatment planning, if necessary.
At First Impression Dental, we work with most dental insurance carriers and plans. As a courtesy to our patients with dental insurance we will verify your eligibility prior to the visit. We will work with your carrier to maximize your benefits, and directly bill them for reimbursement for your treatment.
A dental emergency can happen at any time. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, call our office right away and we will make sure to address the issue on the same day. If you are calling outside of our regular business hours, please dial (617) 207-8667, and follow the prompts to leave a message in our emergency mail box.

My first appointment was an emergency visit during a major holiday when my regular dentist’s office was closed. Not only was I quickly seen and treated at First Impression, I was so impressed that I have decided to move my dental care to this highly competent, and caring office. I was treated respectfully and with kindness. This is how dental care should be provided!

They have the latest modern equipment and are expert at using it! I had a filling that fell out but the best plan was to put a crown on the tooth rather than a new filling.
I could hardly believe that Dr. Merzon created a new crown out of porcelein in about an hour and a half!
Unbelievable! Not weeks! 1.5 hours!
I recommend First Impression heartily to all of us with challenged teeth!

Could not be better! Dr. Merzon is incredibly competent and gracious, and has organized a tight team of like-minded individuals. The new offices are stunningly sleek with cutting edge systems/technology/devices. Gail, the receptionist, is also exceptional. I have never been to any health practice as committed to transparent pricing. Gail always goes out of her way negotiating with the insurance company on your behalf. Dr. Merzon is comprehensive with a good grasp on preventative dentistry. He is authentic, honest, and prepared to address any questions or concerns.

Dr. Merzon and his team are great! My last cleaning was 2 years ago at another dentist and since then I developed some stains in the back of my teeth from coffee; the stains are gone after the cleaning :D. I'm also getting a night guard from him in a few weeks, I grind my teeth at night and have been looking for night guard options; the scanning was very fast; The 3D model rendering software was very cool and the cost of the night guard (~$490) is very reasonable compared to other places I've looked at;

From beginning to end, great experience. Gayle went out of her way to work around my schedule, saving appointments for me when they become available, and was very pleasant to work with. Melissa, the dental hygienist, did a great job cleaning my teeth and was fun to talk to (we’re both dog lovers). Dr Merzon went through my X-rays with me and explained what he was seeing in an easy to understand manner. Would highly recommend, and will be back!

Best dental practice I've had in Massachusetts, (And I've tried several.) From the front desk to the procedure chair, they're all first class, knowledgeable, efficient, patient, sympathetic and most importantly, pain free! (Mostly) This area of Massachusetts has no shortage of dental specialists, there's a reason First Impression is at the top of many peoples lists. I'm more than happy to add my rating.

I started having my dental care taken care of Dr. Shahin in 2016 (I believe). I honestly always had a great cleaning experience with 1st Impression. During that time I needed an implant for a missing back tooth and he'd always push it through to my insurance even though my insurance didn't cover it. Which is why I never made a big deal out of it when I'd see it on my statement (no charge).
It wasn't until 2019 when I brought my husband to him that I realized he seemed to be more interested in making money from our insurance than actually caring for his/our oral health.

Just wanted to reconfirm that this is the best dentist I've had in my 59 years on this globe. Gail at the front desk is extremely friendly and extremely competent. They all care and go above and beyond to ensure insurance is in line and that you are as comfortable as possible in the chair. What else is there?

I actually love this place- which is a rare thing to say about going to the dentist! They are SUPER clean, friendly and efficient, I had multiple issues and needed a crown. After years with a yellow front tooth my crown came out amazing and gave me hella confidence in my smile. Receptionist is super sweet and explains everything thoroughly. Dentist is straight forward about what needs to be done and I never felt pushed to do a procedure I didn't want to. This is my new official dentist :)

I went to 1st Impressions for a cleaning and I will definitely be back. I came across the office as a recent NY transplant in need of a dentist! Their instagram page has many before and after photos that made me comfortable and confident scheduling an appointment with the team. The staff was welcoming and professional. Doctor Shahin had a high attention to detail and made me feel right at home- that is really saying something coming from someone who hates dental appointments (who doesn't)! The office is clean and I will be going there for all my future dental needs!

I went here once maybe 3 or 4 years ago. The cleaning seemed fine as far as that goes. But the dentist was an aggressive up seller. He pushed wisdom tooth removal, despite being unable to clearly identity anything wrong with my wisdom teeth. He also pitched orthodonture for no apparent reason. I said I'd think about it, but on the way out the receptionist asked about scheduling wisdom tooth removal even though I had never indicated I wanted to go forward with the procedure. Dr. Shahin and his staff are truly amazing. I am terrified of the dentist and I have been trying to look for an office that can ease my anxiety. This is a modern boutique practice with all the bells and whistles need for a big baby like me.

Horrible 1st impression at 1st impression. Completely wasted my time. It was my daughters first dentist appt and she was very excited. I called the day before to confirm my appt and ask if I could complete my forms in advance. I started the conversation with I'm calling to confirm my children's appts for this Saturday. Great neighborhood dentist. What's special about Dr. Shahin's practice is he offers pay-as-you-go insurance with no committment, perfect for students and people on the move a lot. The receptionist does a great job with reminder text/call regarding upcoming appointments, and service is always quick. Dr. Shahin himself is very personable and understanding of patients' needs.

Some of the most unprofessional staff I've ever experienced. The dentist himself is very awkward with a weird bedside manner and didn't have answers to a lot of my questions. The teeth cleaning and fillings were fine, but not good enough to deal with him or the staff. I have emailed saved from both of them that are just so inappropriate. Go find a better dentist, they're out there.

Dr. Pooria Shahin is a great dentist. He is the fourth dentist I have visited in NYC since moving here 5 years ago. I am generally very particular about any medical treatment (hence my shopping around for a good dentist) and he has given me a cleaning, root canal, and THREE crowns!!! All of which I am hugely satisfied with! If you are looking for a dentist who is personable, has great bedside manner and takes time to make sure the job is done right, then Dr. Pooria Shahin is your man! Also the two assistants who work there are an absolute delight and the office is very clean.
