Services
Our mission is to make the bike owning experience as fun and enjoyable as possible for our customers for the lifecycle of their purchase. We have a factory in Detroit where we produce our signature US Chromoly bikes using high-quality American Chromoly steel. We do complete assembly and wheel building on our US Assembly bikes, and offer OEM manufacturing and high volume bicycle assembly services to a variety of customers.
We do not currently have a timeline to get new bikes in once these sell out. These bikes retail for $529. Attach the quick-release front wheel, install the pedals, adjust the seat, and you're ready to ride. We also include a free Detroit Bikes floor pump with every order. This is a bike made for all purpose city riding.
The Sparrow was designed to keep things simple. This is a stripped down A to B bike- fast and light as a feather, best used on city streets. We've priced the Sparrow to make it a value that can't be beat. To encourage cycling by making an accessible, enjoyable bicycle while continuing Detroit's legacy of quality manufacturing and design.
The e-Sparrow is based on our incredibly simple, lightweight and easy to use Sparrow platform. Beyond the wonderfully approachable price-point, the throttle feature is what makes these special. Like the Sparrow, the e-Sparrow also includes a pump. These bikes weigh in at an astonishingly light 32-36 lbs.

Nate had been researching e-bikes for awhile and found one from Detroit Bikes that he liked, so we decided to check them out while in town recently. The shop is located right downtown and is actually really cool; it's designed after a historical bike shop in Detroit. They have these tall wood and glass cases that look like something from a natural history museum, I loved them!
Scott was there when we stopped in and he was super helpful and knowledgable. He showed us the different sizes of the e-bike and answered all our questions about them (and we had many). He was great to talk to because

As bad as it is for the customer, it's even worse for the employees, I worked there and can tell you, first hand that they cut corners, and do not pay their employees, I had to reach out to the US department of labor, and launch an investigation on them.
Do not buy or ride these bikes, we the employees deserve better.

This may be the only 5 star review whereby in the first sentence I would describe my experience as terrible. Terrible though from my interactions with the retailer from which I purchased the bike many months ago and watched as the delivery dates came and went with no clear insight as to where was the bike. Then, after many fruitless customer service calls to said retailer, I finally contacted Detroit Bikes directly and found for the first time actual customer service. EDIT: Just want to add that I just received an email from them confirming that our bike went to the wrong customer. GREAT! This is what happens when you buy from them.
Terrible customer service. My husband and I placed an order months ago. They said it would take 3-5 weeks from the purchase date. Ok, we are in the middle of the pandemic so we can wait. A month after purchasing they ask for full payment and tell us the bike is 3 weeks away from being shipped (ok, another 3 extra weeks, fine).
It's been 2 months now since we paid in full. Last month they told us they were building the bike and

Nothing but excuses and emails saying it's coming and it never did. At one time they said they couldn't ship it because they didn't have enough valve caps! Run down to the local automotive supply store, and grab em' then! 20+ emails saying it's on its way from october to december, and I have nothing to show for it except a bad taste in my mouth. I really wanted to own a bike made in detroit, but sadly they dropped the ball and lost a customer forever.

1. Ordered Faygo Orange (my dream bike) in May..... website listed as IN Stock.
2.Found out web page was not up to date.
3.Covid (understanding )
4. Wait 6 months for bike.
5. Sell house move send Email to company updating address.Get conformation email of address update.
6. Finally ship out bike...where you guessed it old address.
7. 2 hour round trip to old address to retrieve bike.
8.Unpack bike to find it has been damaged in transit. The paint was scratched. For 800 I should not receive a damaged paint job.
9. Contact company who give the gee so sorry our apology type answers.

The customer service here is some of the worst I have experienced with any company I have done business with in the last year.
I have tried to order a bike since May with them twice (shame on me after the first time), had them hold two payments, one for a payment in full from ordering through Amazon ($899) and one on August 27th for a deposit ($450) to wait for the bike to be made for up to 45 days and be able to have it mailed out by 60 days, only to get my money refunded and still no bike after 6 months of trying to order one with this company.
I left voicemails stating to please call me back
