Dr. John Halversen was raised in a family that taught and embodied the value of giving back to your community. Because of this upbringing, he knew from an incredibly young age that he was meant to serve his community. His passion and natural talent for observing fine details and working with his hands drove him to pursue a career that would allow him to help people and use those skills he had worked to develop and refine.
Dr. Shold recognized early in his life that he had a talent for putting people at ease using his calm, non-threatening demeanor. Although he initially became interested in potentially pursuing a career in healthcare in his teens, it was his first year at college as a pre-med student that caused him to decide on dentistry as his career path.
Dr. Stern, the founding member of Maintain Your Smile, has practiced dentistry in the Rockford area since 1996. Early in his career, he worked as a dentist at both the Crusader Community Health Clinic and Maintain Your Smile.
His entrepreneurial spirit, desire to work with his hands, and passion for building lasting relationships with both patients and co-workers has been the foundation of his decades-long career serving the needs of the Rockford community.Dr. Stern's passion for dentistry continues to be stimulated by the generational level of care he has had the honor to provide.

I had an appointment to have my teeth cleaned with Tere that was outstanding. She was very thorough updating my health history and did a great exam and explaining her findings. She did an excellent cleaning and encouraged me to keep up the good work. Dr Gibson did my exam and I love his chair side manner. Love Maintain Your Smile and all the staff from the time you walk in the door to the time you check out. Professional and friendly. 5 Stars for sure!

The staff here demonstrate their professionalism and technical competence by providing the patient a comfortable, non invasive approach before pursuing aggressive treatment options. Another dentist I had visited recommended expensive, dramatic, and irreversible treatments for a condition that turned out not to exist. I will always choose Maintain Your Smile first!

Love, love, love Dr. Halverson and his assistants. My favorite dentist ever. He checks in constantly when you’re in the chair to make sure you’re doing okay. I had two tooth issues at the same time and it’s taken several months to fix. He wanted to make sure everything was done right and that I had no pain. He’s a great Dr. and so funny. Love his sense of humor. Check him out. You won’t be sorry.

I have always had bad experiences at the dentist since my first tooth. This has caused me so much anxiety and fear, my teeth have been severely neglected. I called a Monday morning a week or so ago for establishing care and to fix a scene broken tooth with a bad infection. I got in the same day and we made a plan for treatment. They're welcoming and kind. I will go back and follow up to make me comfortable to smile again! Thank you!

I absolutely LOVE this place! Tricia and Dr Schick have done my teeth for years now with cleanings. Both are incredible!! Always feel so great leaving and never scared or nervous. Also have had Dr Gibson do a bunch of other work, root canals, fillings, etc and I’ve had no pain and no issues ever! ☺️HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!
