The traditional Pilates method focuses on enhancing movement, body awareness, posture, alignment, and balance. Pilates for Life classes are available as matwork as well as private equipment instruction. Pilates for Life is committed to teaching the traditional Pilates method in a positive and encouraging environment to promote physical as well as mental well being.

Our Pilates classes offer you the benefit of deep core strengthening and stabilization combined with flexibility. They are designed to compliment physical therapy/chiropractic care and will improve your performance in any sport or activity. Pilates for Life Owner Marlene Powers' Journey: Her Commitment to Pilates and How it Changed Her Life. Marlene's interest in Pilates was sparked while recovering from a back injury; two herniated discs and a chronic hip condition left her unable to walk without the assistance of a walker. Through extensive Physical Therapy, she was able to gain enough mobility to begin a Pilates mat class.
You begin Pilates by finding your center and engaging your powerhouse, which are your deep core muscles. Your mind must be fully engaged-allowing you to concentrate and enabling you to work with precision and control. The Pilates mat class series follows Joseph Pilates' original sequence of exercises to provide you with core strength, flexibility, better alignment, balance, and proper breathing techniques.

Pilates for Life is Pilates in its purist form. Marlene Powers not only owns and runs the studio, but teaches every class. Group lessons are taught on a mat, while machines are used for privates. Marlene continues to train with Joseph Pilates protégé Romana Kryzanowska and her dedication to True Pilates is exemplified by the constant tweaking of her techniques. Her knowledge of the positions and the body and her ability to get you to "go deeper" into your core, not to mention her devotion to her students, is unmatched. I highly recommend Pilates for Life. Marlene is a great instructor! She is supportive while making each class challenging and interesting. She works closely with each student to ensure that they are in the proper position to avoid injury and get the most out of each exercise.

Marlene is a wonderful, patient, kind teacher. She is knowledgeable and uses different techniques and equipment specific to students needs to help everyone, all different ages, connect with their core properly and strengthen their bodies.
