Services
Marilyn's Bakery, est. 1986, is a family-run business located on Johnson's Farm Produce, a 5th generation farm. We are passionate bakers and chefs, utilizing in-season and local ingredients to create the highest quality sweet and savory treats. When Aunt Carol Brenn decided to get rid of her bakery equipment in 1986, Marilyn (Johnson) Pearson decided to try it out in a small workspace at Johnson's Farm Produce.
We have temporarily stopped taking specialty decorated cake orders until we can get our labor crisis under control, as we want to assure that we are providing top quality products and services. We will continue to take orders for build-your-own cakes without specialty decoration with a minimum of 1 week requirement.
Cakes should be as delicious as they look, and we sure love making mouthwatering flavors and stunning designs. Our decorators can create carved cakes and 3D figurines, along decorations made out of fondant, gum paste, or buttercream -each has its own look and application. Visit the Cakes page for more information about flavors, options, and placing an order.
We're not kidding. We make over 70,000 pies a year! Grandma made pie for Sunday dinner. Now we make Grandma's pie the same way - from scratch! We use fresh or fresh-frozen fruit that we sweeten and thicken ourselves. We use palm shortening (trans-fat free) for our crusts, and we never use preservatives.
A great way to earn money for your organization, give your friends and family something worth purchasing, and support local businesses. As a family-owned business that uses local food (when available), we really love supporting the community. If you're in search of a convenient and appealing fundraiser, we're here to help.

All the baked goods smell so good. I go, especially during fall, to take advantage of their buttery toffee offered. It's nice & clean and the line moves fast to order & pay for your food.

To be fair I have only been here twice but yuck. I love pumpkin pie and look forward to it on Thanksgiving day. Normally I get a pumpkin pie from bakers square ever year, the one with whip cream on top. Well I am new to the portage area and bakers is a distance from me and folks kept recommending this place. The pumpkin pie was $15 so comparable to bakers but that's where the similarities stop! It was the worst pumpkin pie I had in my life. Seriously I have had ones at stack and van that were better. I have to say the customers there were a bit snotty for my taste. One man commented that the ugly

The best bakery in Northwest Indiana. I'm going to miss it so much when I move to Arizona. Their mandarin orange cakes and cupcakes are to die for. You can't beat their toffee during the holidays either.

Got down to Arkansas for Thanksgiving, opened the pumpkin pie and found it molded and drawn away from the crust! Not a nice experience for using this bakery for the first time, so now the pecan and Dutch apple pies were also not used because afraid to use them! Never will use this bakery again!!!

AWESOME!!! My friend brought a mini pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. I’ll be honest, over the years I have been disappointed in the pies I have had and I started to think no one could make a decent pumpkin pie anymore. This bakery proves someone can actually make a decent pumpkin pie…they go far beyond decent, though. This was the best pumpkin pie I have ever had! The crust was not soggy, but just right. The filling was flavorful. My friend also brought fabulous kolaczkies, an apple pie and a mixed berry pie. Every item was phenomenal. Highly recommend this bakery!

Bought a large blueberry pie at the Frankfort Farmers market yesterday and it's fantastic! Plump, large blueberries burst with sweetness and flavor in your mouth. Crump topping has nice crunch to go with the filling. Glad the small blueberry were gone.

Bought this cake from Marilyn’s for out of town guests. It was so disgusting, we couldn’t even eat it. It was supposed to be yellow cake with mousse. We didn’t find any mousse, but there was what appeared to be a Rice Krispy cereal layer. The decoration was horrible!

My first visit and was very disappointed. Bought a French silk pie and was really looking forward to serving it to family for dessert. I cut into the pie to find that the center crust had bubbled up during the blind baking. When they filled the pie there was virtually NO filling in the center of the pie. They spread just enough filling across the bubbled up crust to give the illusion of a full pie. Not worth the $14 price.

So disappointed in this bakery. I can't say how the lunches are because I've been there twice and walked out without one. Both times they were all out of box lunch items and the last time it was only noon. The baked goods do look scrumptious though.

We were visiting from out of town and our Airbnb hosts recommended stopping in for pie or other tasty baked goods. We were hoping for a peanut butter pie, but it turns out those needs to be ordered ahead of time. We opted for a French Silk Cup (think individual pie), a slice of raspberry cheesecake, and an individual serving of lemon pound cake. Everything was delicious!

This place is so good! I've driven by a bunch of times without really noticing it, until my mom told me her coworker drives all the way from Naperville to get their pies. Stopped in the other day and everyone was so nice . They had a good variety of fresh baked pies .i chose the cherry crumb top and it was amazing! Still warm out of the oven. We will be back!

It's newer here and easy to miss in the strip mall, but it's so good! Everything is fresh and seems to be small batch, so it's definitely not a place that churns out and let's product sit. I loved their kolachkeys. Flaky and good!

Really nice space and excellent paçzki. I interviewed a lady eating lunch and she said it was the second time she's been back in a week. I'm told the chicken salad is AWESOME and the "lunch box" is the way to go. You get some soup, salad, or sandwich with a drink or dessert.
I only got the paçzki but I took a couple blueberry pie samples while I was waiting for the girl to box them. OMG it was so good, and I'm usually not a blueberry fan.

Amazing baked goods!! Since it's strawberry season, we were able to get a dozen of their strawberry donuts. We also go their strawberry cheesecake and some chocolate chip cookies.
They also sell coffee, espresso drinks, tea and hot chocolate. They sell honey, canned drinks and bottled drinks too.
Wonderful place to get a lunch or dessert & coffee.
