The Bandha Room is the longest running Authorized Ashtanga Yoga studio in the Pacific Northwest. We have the only Mysore program in Washington state taught by authorized teachers, 6 days a week in the traditional method. Our Mysore-style Ashtanga Intro Series begins with a Sunday workshop then runs Mon/Wed/Fri mornings for 12 sessions. We are allowing small groups of Fully Vaccinated students to practice at the Bandha Room during regular Zoom classes.
Services
It started as four friends sharing one love: Ashtanga Yoga. After years of spreading our great secret, the morning practice club and road-trip crew outgrew the practice space and a need for a home arose. With the help of a few friends and a warm community Vivian and Aeryk were able to open The Bandha Room in 2007, offering instruction and practice in a disciplined yet friendly and supportive environment in the tradition of Shri K Pattabhi Jois.
Ashtanga Yoga is a system of yoga study rooted in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Ashtanga means "8 limbs" and refers to an all encompassing practice that goes beyond merely the physical performance of Asana (postures). The 8 limbs include yogic lifestyle, ethical behaviors, and meditation, suggesting a specific relationship of the Yogi to self, and to all of life and Consciousness.
The traditional style practiced in Mysore, India. With individualized instruction and adjustments, students achieve a meditative flow at their own pace. Sharing the room with yogis of all levels allows students to give and receive inspiration and energy. Doors open at 6;30am, new students start at 7. Students may begin their practice on their own prior to 8am, but must complete it by the scheduled class end time.
You may talk amongst yourselves before/after class but you will be muted during the class so the teacher can be heard clearly. If we don't recognize you or your device we may ask you to 'flash' us or privately let us know your identity. We do ask that our regular club members who are employed keep paying so we can keep the virtual roof over our heads until we can use the real roof again.
Attending Mysore style yoga classes is a little different from going to a Western led yoga class. A Mysore class provides a rare opportunity for quiet focus and meditation in motion. The room is largely silent, except for the steamy rhythm of breath filling the space like ocean waves. As a student you are expected to maintain the focus and austerity of the room by keeping silence.

I LOVE THIS STUDIO! This is a secret gem in the Pacific North West, and once the secret is out, good luck finding a spot to put your mat down, it's already a very tight fit. I highly recommend this studio to anyone interested in Yoga. Vivian & Aeryk are phenomenal and humble experts in Ashtanga. This studio is very welcoming and open to all sizes, ages, genders, races, and is driven by the purity and power of ashtanga, Hands down the best studio I've ever been to.
