If experience is a good teacher, then J.W. Curry & Son Funeral Home is well schooled. J.W. (Jim) Curry, founder and great-grandfather of Kay Curry, manager, took the train from his home in Princeton, KY to Newbern, TN, where he caught a stagecoach to Dyersburg. In 1881, he established his furniture and undertaking business.
Kay is a fourth generation Funeral Director and a lifelong resident of Dyersburg, with over 40 years experience in funeral service and funeral pre-planning. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and is the mother of 2 daughters: Ann Proud is a Special Education Assistant at Pemiscot County Special School District in Caruthersville, MO and Allison Phelps is a kindergarten teacher at Tipton-Rosemark Academy.
No one likes to think about death, let alone plan for it. By pre-planning your funeral, you relieve your family of having to make important financial decisions during a period of great stress and grief-a time when people aren't thinking very clearly and may not know what to do because you never made your wishes known.
Someone you love has died. You are now faced with the difficult, but important, need to mourn. Mourning is the open expression of your thoughts and feelings regarding the death and the person who died. It is an essential part of healing. The following articles provide many practical suggestions to help you move toward healing in your unique grief journey.
Most of us are not prepared to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for someone we love. And so much of the information available on this critically important subject fails to focus on what is most important: having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends begin the healing process of mourning after the death of someone we love.
