Doc's Comstock's Vacuum and Sewing Center has been a staple business in Medina for over 38 years. Located in Comstocks Junction, it is the destination place where customers find courtesy, friendship, quality machines for sale, and dedicated repair service. Under the new management of Jim "Doc" Watson, since 2011, we are still excited about the Comstock future.
After 30 plus years as an Air Traffic Controller for the United States Air Force and Cleveland Hopkins Airport, Doc pursued another vocational interest, namely, mechanical repair. Sewing machines and vacuums allow him to delve into details and troubleshooting on the ground rather than in the air but keep him involved in his love of fixing things.

Services
At Doc's Comstock's Vacuum and Sewing Center, we want to see your machines only when absolutely necessary. There are some general maintanence things you can do to keep your vacuum and sewing machines running and help prolong their lives. If your bag or container fills, the material being vacuumed will start to back up into the hoses and machinery.
The Janome company prides itself on cutting-edge technology that is easy to use. In fact, their mission statement is, "to produce machines which inspire creativity and innovation, yet are simple to use." When we interviewed people who are professional and hobbyist embroiderers, sewists/sewers and quilters, the name "Janome" kept coming up.
When it came time to sell vacuums to our customers, we investigated all of the brands out there to find the right machines for the right reasons. Many of the vacuums on the market today are designed to be replaced every 2-3 years. In that time you also have to replace filters that can run from $5 to $30 or more every six months.

I phoned to ask a few simple questions regarding repair of my Janome sewing machine. These were just simple, general questions, as I have been having some issues with it. The man who answered the phone was abrupt to the point of absolute rudeness; wouldn't let me finish a sentence and told me quote: I don't have to listen to the whole story, just know that it will be $109 to look at it - you didn't buy it from me". On paper, you cannot know the tone of voice, but it was so rude, I simply hung up on him. Hope he's not in sales, because if it turns out I need to purchase a new machine to the tune

My wife inherited an old Singer sewing machine from a dear friend before she passed away. The friend had told my wife that the machine only sewed a straight stitch, but I was able to diagnose a problem with the gear used to select the stitch pattern.
While I could diagnose the problem, fixing it was well beyond my handyman capabilities. I called Comstock's and discussed the problem with Jim, then took the machine in for evaluation. Jim confirmed my diagnosis of the problem, was able to find a replacement gear for the machine, and quoted a fair price for his labor to fix it.

I would give no stars if possible!! I took my sewing machine to be repaired last summer. I don't sew a lot, so when I pulled it out today to use it the whole machine rattled and the entire bobbin set up fell out. I called to see if they would look at it and he said sure, for another $90. Why should I pay for something that was never fixed in the first place!!! Rip off

Doc has been from the start honest and fair. Completely helpful and has a sense of humor not often found in retail stores. At Comstock's you will find wonderful classes to help you expand your sewing skills as well as a good line of Janome sewing machines, the real workhorses of the sewing industry.
