San Diego Ballet School
The San Diego Ballet School offers a range of classes for everyone from all ages and level of ability. The faculty at San Diego Ballet School are all highly educated, trained and experienced instructors and former dancers. Our students work hard at the San Diego Ballet School, and as their programs progress, they become eager to perform.
Services
San Diego Ballet's mission is to excite, enrich, and entertain its diverse audience through an imaginative presentation of quality classical and contemporary dance. No other dance company in San Diego is quite like San Diego Ballet (SDB). Under the visionary leadership of Javier Velasco, you do not simply see an SDB performance, you feel it.
SDB celebrates Latin Music this Fall by bringing two of San Diego Ballet's audience favorites together on one program! Get swept away in the evocative and romantic Que Bonito Amor set to rapturous score of Mariachi music and Mambomania, one of Artistic Director Javier Velasco's sizzling signature works.
San Diego Ballet brings America's favorite holiday event to dazzling life at the newly renovated Magnolia theater. Our annual production of The Nutcracker features Tchaikovsky's timeless score and an international cast of more than 100 beautifully costumed dancers. Sugarplum fairies, leaping cossacks and flurries of snowflakes swirl across the stage, in this magical journey through a young girl's imagination.
Meet a Dancer One San Diego Ballet company dancer teaching artist goes to one school classroom for a 30-minute ballet demonstration and Q&A. Interactive In-School Assembly with Professional Performance San Diego Ballet travels to schools to provide programming on-site during the school day. The 1-hour assembly includes half interactive ballet/dance workshop with the students and ends with a quality professional level ballet performance.
A lifelong student of ballet, Dionne started dancing at the age of 8 with Ballet Idaho in Boise, ID. Upon graduating from high school, she attended the University of Idaho where she danced with the student performance group. She graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and a minor in Dance.

I have taken adult classes at San Diego Ballet for 4 years. The teachers and classes are wonderful. My girls (ages 8, 6 and 3) also take class and have a blast. We have been at 3 different studios and San Diego Ballet is by far the best.

Took my parents to see San Diego Ballet presintacion of Ritmos Latinos on the Lyceum Stage for their 60th anniversary.
What a delightful show.
Javier's vision and mix of dance and music was so different and refreshing. The mix of classical ballet with touches of Mexican folk dance was playful but complicated.
I must say the third sketch was my favourite. Having the beauty of ballet around LIVE music on stage was artistically perfect. Gilbert Castellanos a nice surprise and that congero, Tommy Aros was delightful.
I must also say using Agustin Lara's music in the second sketch was brilliant

My daughter took their PreB ballet class for the first time on Saturday and she loved it. Her teacher was Kathleen and taught the class well. My daughter is so eager to continue on.

I wish it was possible to review the school and the company separately, but I guess it's 4 stars for the school and 2 for the company, so 3 overall.

The school has excellent adult ballet classes, but are frustratingly administered. Javier is a great teacher who gives feedback to all students. Some teachers only focus on the best or most promising students, but Javier helps everyone do their best, no matter how low their best is. For adult dancers, this is fabulous.

Unfortunately, the school is strict on attendance, which may work for children, but is difficult for adults. There's an

My husband Alex and I have for over 50 years, regularly gone to most live stage productions here in San Diego and elsewhere, and when it comes to judging Ballet; After taking everything into consideration, we rate the San Diego Ballet Company, as number one in San Diego.

There are so many excellent dancers in San Diego. I imagine none are auditioning for the San Diego ballet because of the terrible choreography and little respect or understanding of what high quality dance is. A junior high production quality with a set design akin to a dilapidated elementary school. The dancers aren't even able to do anything in synch, and it's probably the fault of the director or choreographer, not the dancers. It's a shame that some of these aspiring dancers have to suffer through a stint with the San Diego ballet because I imagine they know nothing better. And

Came in for a drop-in class ($20) and did not have cash on me. The lady at the desk still let me take the class and told me I could pay next time I come around since I take class upstairs at Malashock. I thought that was nice! This place is cash or check only so be prepared for that!

I came and took an adult beginning ballet class and it was fine.

I think it is slightly expensive and the member fee is high. I paid for a membership with Malashock and was under the impression that it covered all 3 resident companies at San Diego Dance Place. However, the Malashock membership apparently does not

This place has great teachers available, but not necessarily. It was hit and miss for me here, as some of the open classes were fantastic and others were very slow with lots of people who werent really aware of spacing. I wish the online schedule was more informative about who was teaching each class...

Went to watch The Nutcracker and representatives from SD Ballet were selling nutcrackers, ornaments and other items during the intermission. All proceeds benefit the ballet school. I purchased 2 nutcracker ornaments for $10. I kept one and gave the other as a present. They were too cute not to buy.

This is the place! It's not too pricey, the kids love it, the instructors are great with the kids and very professional. We are here once a week and everyone is always happy. There are lots of fundraisers for the programs and the facility is clean and neat.

Ms. Karen is always a treat. I love that she is such an outgoing personality.
