Did you know that dogs and cats need dental care, just like people do? Imagine how painful your mouth and teeth would feel if you never brushed your teeth or never had them cared for by a dentist. Periodontal, or dental disease, is extremely common in pets. According to the American Veterinary Dental College, most dogs and cats exhibit some degree of periodontal disease by three years of age.
Occasional scratching is a natural occurrence for pets, but biting and excessive scratching may indicate that your pet is suffering from allergies. Just like people, our furry friends can be allergic to certain types of foods, medications, and upon contact from items such as dust or grass. At Crosspoint Veterinary Hospital, Dr. McHughes has many years of experience in treating itching pets.
According to data collected by the American Heartworm Society, Southeast Louisiana has some of the highest incidence rates of heartworm disease in the United States. Heartworms are transmitted from infected animals by mosquitoes, and can infest dogs as well as cats. Heartworms not only affect the heart, but often the lungs and other areas of the body.

We’ve been taking both our puppies here for over a year now. It’s has been nothing but great experiences, both with the doctors and staff, and with the groomer. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great vet for their pet.

Dr. Jenkins with Crosspoint is very professional and took excellent care of our previous pet. He is now taking wonderful care of our foster dog. The entire staff are extremely caring and welcoming. Dr. Jenkins takes the time to explain exactly what to expect during a procedure. I believe our foster dog is receiving the best care possible.

We took our new puppy to Dr Jenkins this week. The staff was very friendly and we were taken back and seen quickly. Dr Jenkins took his time with us and really worked well with our pup. He even found a small hernia that the breeders vet missed.
He gave us everything we needed for additional worming and flea/tick treatment then scheduled for final round of vaccinations at 12 weeks. First experience was excellent.
