Services
You'll read that phrase quite a bit in this site and see it in family eye care specialist Northwest Eye materials, but what does it mean? Be Eye Wise is a call to learn more about - and better understand - eye health and proper eye care.

At Northwest Eye, not only will we help you and your family overcome your eye condition or ailments like cataracts, glaucoma, misaligned eyes or refractive errors, but we will also take a comprehensive approach to your overall eye health and educate you on how to protect, maintain, repair and prolong healthy eye sight.Be Eye Wise is a rallying cry for you to better understand your eyes because vision is too essential to take for granted.
I started with Northwest Eye and Dr. Bonnie Bongaard at your very small clinic on Duluth street by Byerlys' decades ago. I received very good service there and have remained with NWE ever since. So although my doctors and technicians and the locations have changed over time, I feel I have always had the very best in eye care and at age 82 my eyes and vision are in very good shape.
Find out more about advanced cataract surgery procedures from Minnesota's foremost cataract surgeons at Northwest Eye! Cataract Evaluations are conveniently offered in Golden Valley, Maple Grove, St. Anthony and Wayzata. If I have good vision, why do I need a regular eye exam? When performing a comprehensive eye examination at Northwest Eye, our eye doctors do more than check for clear vision.
Be Eye Wise by understanding that cataracts are an eye condition that causes the lens of your eye to become cloudy and obstruct light. Twenty million Americans over the age of 40 are affected by cataracts. Not surprisingly, three million Americans opt for cataract surgery every year to correct the issue.
Many people who believe they have good vision don't see any reason to have a regular eye examination. That could be a dangerous approach to taking care of your health! Did you know that some eye conditions can cause severe vision loss long before patients experience any noticeable symptoms? For example, most people don't notice early glaucoma symptoms, but it can ultimately cause blindness if it's left untreated.

Most definitely worth the 2 hour drive for pediatric care!
Dr. Decanini was FABULOUS with my 2.5 yr old with autism. We have had 2 awful experiences elsewhere so I was leary of trying a third time. The Dr. walked in the room with a bag of toys and sat right down on the floor with my little. Both her and the assistant sang songs and interacted. Making the entire appointment seem more like play time. Absolutely remarkable experience.

We've been going to Northwest'a Pediatric Eye Clinic for more than a decade and the staff here have always been thorough and caring. From a four year old with double vision to an autistic child terrified of the eyedrops to a teenager being monitored for a inherited cornea issue, they have been great. We moved up to the Duluth area but still travel back to Northwest Eye.

Very organized and awesome flow esp with the pandemic. I felt very safe. Dr. freeman was wonderful and very informative as always but I was disappointed that he did not do a personal exam at this appointment. That was concerning considering we drive a great distance for his excellent care and even though we trust his staff we would have preferred Dr. Freeman to at least look at my son’s eyes and not just review the clinician notes.

We have been seeing Dr. Freeman since 2009 and he has been awesome to both of our boys. He performed an eye surgery on our younger son when he was was 17 months old. Our boys have been doing great since they have been in Dr. Freeman’s care. Their vision and results have tremendously changed. I would always recommend Dr. Freeman to all my family and friends.

Dr. Freeman was wonderful with my son. He kept the mood light and was joking around with him. I would definitely recommend Northwest Eye Clinic to my friends and family. The appointment went quickly and everything was done efficiently. The procedures were explained to me and my son in a way that he could understand.

I really appreciate how seriously Dr.Freeman takes his job, accessing eye conditions and advocating for young patients that cannot speak up for themselves. He is very direct and at first I was shocked. He told me if my daughter's eye condition wasn't taken seriously she would be legally blind in one of her eyes. I was beside myself with worry. But honestly if he hadn't been very clear with us, how would we ever know that if not properly addressed, our child's sight could continue to decline? We have been seeing him for 3 years now. By choice I wouldn't trust my child's eye care needs to anyone

Decades behind the times. I’ve been in glasses and contacts for 30 years and I haven’t seen an office like this since I was a child. Equipment is ancient and dated. Hand placing lenses into each test. Dialating children’s eyes and waiting for 45 minutes rather than using modern equipment. Testing for color blindness with a flashlight. Can’t get answers from anyone. We will never be back and I’d tell anyone to stay away and find an optometrist who has updated their practice in the last 30 years.
