Services
Our Journey to Becoming the Premiere Biking, Hiking and Kayaking Experience Throughout Sonoma and Napa Valley. Getaway Adventures started as an accidental business. It all started when I, Randy Johnson, founder and owner, blew out my knee in a skiing accident. A ski bum by trade, the knee injury forced me to convalesce in Calistoga while I healed.
Your tour begins at our Healdsburg Touring Center with a bike fitting and orientation by one or our professional guides. We'll take the time to review the route with you, give personal tips and advice and answer any questions you may have. After that you'll be traveling on your own, but we'll always be just a phone call away.
When you arrive at our Touring Center in the town of Healdsburg on the morning of your tour start we'll provide you with all the equipment and information that you'll need for your trip. We'll fit you to your bike, outfit you with your gear and provide a custom created trip package that will include maps, route descriptions and area information.
Your first day consists of our "Classic Wine Country Bike Tour." Departing our touring center at 10am, you'll casually ride through the rolling hills of the Dry Creek Valley stopping occasionally to visit some of our favorite local wineries. Your guide may take you for a short walk among some 90 year old vines or stop to share an amazing vista.
Your first day consists of our "Russian River Kayak Tour." Departing our touring center at 10am, you'll casually paddle down a pristine stretch of the river, spared for any commercial development. We'll see all sorts of wildlife including egrets, herons, turtles, fish and more! After we finish our 8.5 mile paddle we'll eat lunch in the redwoods before returning to our office.

The staff were super friendly and made sure we got the right size bikes and all the maps and directions we needed. Called a day ahead to reserve bikes and we were good to go! We enjoyed a lovely day riding through the vineyards and stopping at the Dry Creek General Store for lunch.

Great shop. Friendly staff. We were in Sonoma this weekend for some touring and riding....uh oh brought wrong bike shoes. Owner Jeff hooked me up with some pedals that worked with the shoes i brought. Got them on quickly and we were on the road. He gave us a map with a couple routes and we enjoyed a couple back roads rides with virtually no traffic through vineyards and wineries into Napa. Nice supplies and rental bikes in the shop as well. Thanks for the great service

We booked a Sonoma bike tour (just my husband and I) through Wine Country bikes. It was terrific! Bikes, staff and routes were excellent, hats off to John and his team. They made our trip perfect. And at the end went above and beyond to help us out. We'll definitely book again!

Service was great on the front end. We brought the bikes back 15 minutes before close and asked if we could still use the showers. The girl from Toronto who waited at the front desk seemed perturbed that we would ask to use them so close to closing time. She even turned around and looked at the clock and said yeah, but we're closing soon. And then seemed even more put out when we asked where towels were. We left one minute before they closed and said thank you so much and she practically sneered at my friends. Way to ruin a great experience.

We had a great experience. Staff went above and beyond. Calin was so nice and helpful. Bikes were in great shape and good quality. We did the recommended route for 25 mile out and back self guided and it was perfect. Little traffic, beautiful scenery. We visited Preston farm (which was not one of their recommendations) and it was our favorite. Great little farm that really understands biodynamic and mixed crop production.

The bikes were nice for a great price. Just wish they would stay open until 5:30 or 6:00. That way you could take your time riding home after your last tasting (seemed like most tasting rooms closed at 4:30-5:00). We headed back to town at 4:15 and juuust made it before closing.

The service itself was fine HOWEVER; to get to all of the wineries is major semi dangerous roads! When booking a bike in “wine country” this is just not what I think of.
Additionally the say they have roadside assistance, which we thought meant that they might be able to pick us up if we couldn’t handle it... nope. No they don’t pick you up! Just be prepared when renting: we weren’t.
*** this is where I left a 3/5 Star review- annnnd below is what happenend when we brought the bikes back*****
**** update!!! We came back and immediately the owner say “hey so I saw you left a 3 star

Had a great trip and folks here were extremely helpful. The person who helped us warned us about which roads were better and less traveled. Bikes were in great condition and perfect for the hills. Ride to Bella Vineyard was about 12 miles one way, but very scenic. Our ride, which included lunch at the general store (great food), went from 9:30am to 4:00pm at a casual pace. Daily rate was affordable. Highest marks!

We rented a tandem bike for our anniversary weekend in Healdsburg (early May). The folks at Wine Country Bikes were awesome! So helpful in making recommendations about where to stop along the route (we did the Dry Creek Valley ride) and just overall nice people. The bike was in great shape and had saddle bags for us to store our purchases and lunch (not too big, but big enough for our needs). They provided a lock and would have had helmets, too, but we'd brought our own. Overall, the tandem experience was a hoot (a true exercise in communication!) and we had a great ride! Would highly

Great place to rent bikes for tooling around Dry Creek / Russian River Valley wine areas. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Maps / directions provided based on various riding abilities, including winery locations along each route. Helmets included in rentals. Showers available for after your ride if your hotel is too far away and you want to head straight back out to the wineries.

The guys working at the Wine Country Bikes were great. Giving 3 stars because the woman working there on the morning of 8/12/17 was super rude. We were explaining to the guy helping us that we called on 8/9 to reserve bikes for 8/12. We wanted tandem when we called on 8/9 but they were all reserved. However, the lady on the phone told us she would reserve it for us if someone canceled. Well when we got there on 8/12 the guy told us they had someone cancel their tandem bike, which was great, we thought we would get it. However, the woman working there that morning said someone called that morning

The whole team/experience was great from a flawless reservation for 11 people on bikes, to the support and flexibility to allow for last minute cancellations due to the rain. Even though only 6 of us made it out, the company was happy to only charge for those who wanted to ride based on the crazy downpour we experienced in the morning. This gave my group huge flexibility to discuss and make a decision that was best for each individual. It took a great deal of stress away as we debating what our new plan when the weather was questionable.

Once there, the bikes we got were excellent. They even

We had one of the best days today! Great service this morning and were told that we needed to return by 5:00pm by very kind gentlemen who helped us with bikes in the morning. At 4:45pm when we arrived back to the bike store to return bikes, women was very upset we were not there at 4:30 because she claimed they were closed then although we were told 5:00pm and he website also states this.

Unbelievable selection of bikes for the avid cyclist. Have jerseys, helmets, socks, sleeves, and snacks if you need those, too. Bikes are hyper personalized from the pedals to the saddle. Staff is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We chose a recommended 70 mile route out to the coast and the female staff member who mapped it out for us knew every turn, climb and road condition. Worth the price.

Can't say enough good things about the business and the people who run it. My son and I took a 4-day trip. Before it even started I called several times for information and advice and they were so accommodating. On the day the tour started, Jon spent a good hour and a half going over the tour, programming the GPS on our bikes and fitting and adjusting the bikes. The accommodations along the way were fine, with the H2 being exceptional. I would heartily recommend this company and the tours it runs.

Our wine country bike tour with Jay has been the highlight of our vacation the last 3 years. The first two years we toured Dry Creek, this year Jay took us to the Russian river. We have yet to repeat a vineyard. They provide easy to ride hybrid bikes complete with water bottles and a wonderful lunch. Jay is very knowledgeable about the local history of wine making.
This is the very best way to see wine country. We hope to continue the tradition in years to come.

If you can request a tour guide, request TAC! His tour made our trip absolute fantastic. It was like spending the day with a fun family member! This experience was the highlight of our trip...The staff was quick and courteous, knowledgeable and accommodating to our group. The picnic lunch they serve is OUTSTANDING. A variety of gourmet sandwiches, fresh salad, and to die for chocolate cake. Each vineyard we visited welcomed us with open arms and delicious wine. The relationship between the vineyards and WCT makes for an experience at each vineyard unforgettable! I highly recommend this

Our week long luxury B&B tour of Sonoma & Napa counties with Wine Country Bikes was like a dream. The staff are incredibly friendly and spend time riding the routes themselves so they know exactly how to prepare you for each day's ride. There were even a couple of days where we wanted to alter the route slightly in order to hit a few different wineries, and John was kind enough to take time to review the new route with us and upload it into our GPS.

Logistically, WCB thinks of everything for you! The bikes are high end and well maintained. You are provided with a map, cue sheets

Absolutely the best vacation ever. Wine Country Bikes staff are experts. They know the bikes and the bike routes; they know the towns and the wineries; they know the restaurants; they know the hotels. They lend that expertise to their customers in a friendly and helpful manner. Always willing to go the extra mile to help make your tour fabulous. We custom-designed a seven day, two person bike tour of Sonoma and Napa. Our luggage was always waiting for us in the next hotel room when we arrived. One of their drivers picked us up at our finishing hotel and took us to the Sonoma County Airport. In

This is a great place to rent a bicycle to cycle around Healdsburg. Friendly staff will equip you with a range of bicycles.

You can order online and for some models, specify what types of pedals you want on the bike. I ended up getting a Torpedo Tandem bike - a mid-range (still 5K tandem) for the day and was able to get SPD pedals on the front and toe-clips on the back for my wife, who was less experienced. Even better, they let me pick up the bike the day before my day rental since it was available.

In the store they have a nice route map that takes you around Healdsburg (around 25 miles...or

There are not enough stars for this review!

Every bit of this outfit is outstanding. The staff is friendly, informative and patient.
The equipment is ideal for the area, with plenty off choices for more intense rides. The options for "trails" are urban for the local area, and north and south for the Wineries.

We had a package deal that has a guide for the first day and on our own for the second day. Our guide, Taylor, was way cool. A local farmer/roadie/ San Fran local, with keen intel on the farming/bio-dynmic/ foodie/ family history. He clearly has a great history and relationship

I rented a road bike for a very memorable day. The staff was helpful and the bike (Trek Madone 2.1) was brand new. The roads are hilly so a good bike really helps a lot to cram more miles in a day trip without feeling exhausted. They had maps and their recommendations for where to stop and which roads to take were dead on.
