Simply Social Dancing
Life took me in several other directions as an adult, before coming back to dance for work. All of my jobs have helped me to develop good work habits and have influenced how I teach. I took a job teaching partner dancing in 1989 because it was the only job available in the field of dance. Initially, I was not enthusiastic about this type of dancing, thinking it was beneath me.

After all, I had studied performance styles of dance such as ballet. Subsequently, I taught in several dance studios in the New York area. I also competed in dance events which honed my technical skills, but did not help me to appreciate social dancing. It took me a long time to discover the beauty of social dancing, and to share this with students.
Services
Students are taught specific dance steps, and have a chance to practice these steps with other students. My beginner classes are free for intermediate students. Intermediate students inspire new students and helps them to learn more quickly. In addition, group classes are less expensive than private lessons.
The value of private lessons is that the student receives more personal feedback. In other words, I tailor my comments to the student's needs, which allows the student to focus on what is most important for their improvement. Private lessons offer greater flexibility for the student, such as giving the student more options when scheduling the lesson and gearing the pace of the lesson as to how quickly the student is able to learn.
Each wedding dance is unique, begining with the wedding couple choosing music which is meaningful to them. I take into consideration the music they have chosen, their ability to dance, and how they move together while being taught. During my years as a dance instructor I have had the pleasure of working with many couples with different styles.
Come on out and enjoy yourself, now that you've taken the lessons and practiced. Whether you learned in a group or had private lessons, now is the time to enjoy dancing & meeting people. The Dance Events provide a place to enjoy dancing in a social setting. These events are open to the public, so bring friends and family for a fun evening out.
First we dance, using steps from Salsa, Cha Cha, Tango and West Coast Swing. Then we stretch and strengthen, using a combination of dance, pilates and yoga movements. This gives you a chance to focus on your own body - challenge yourself and discover new ways to move! Salsa music is filled with percussion rhythms.

I came into dancing as an adult and it has opened me up to notice more about my body than athletics did in my youth. Dancing is fun and is a wonderful way to meet new people. It is also a timeless avocation for all ages. I recommend Lisa’s classes, Latin and Smooth, as well as events; Biagio’s and La Havana 59. Hope to see you in there!

I started dancing at Simply Social Dancing because I was looking for a new activity and I knew I did not want competition dance. I gave it a try and dance has become one of my favorite activities, thanks to Lisa. Lisa is an excellent dance instructor: patient, knowledgeable and skilled. But, most important to me, she makes class fun. After working all day, I come to class and leave with more energy than I had when I entered. Dancing, laughing, learning and meeting new people make Lisa Skates’ Simply Social Dancing a very special and ideal place to learn to dance and have fun.

Having a great time at Simply Social. Everyone is friendly and help each other out. Lisa provides a fun learning environment and teaches more than just steps and routines. I've become more comfortable in leading various dances rather than worry about simple missteps. The personal tips you get even in group classes are very helpful.
The best part for me has been learning to dance my own style and not just repeat an assigned sequence.
