Our practice was started in 1952 by Dr. Charles P. Hesse, the first veterinarian to open on the Westbank.
The practice was moved to its present location in 1954, where it has been serving the Westbank community for over 50 years. In 1978, Dr. David Hesse joined his father in the practice after graduating with honors from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. After working together for six years, Dr. Charles Hesse retired from active practice and Dr. David Hesse has continued the family tradition of providing veterinary care to the community.

Services
The Gretna Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital specializing in the practice of canine and feline internal medicine and surgery. We offer a wide variety of programs ranging from puppy or kitten preventive medicine to geriatric risk factor management, and everything in between for your pet.
In cases of emergency after hours, please go directly to our emergency clinic, the Westbank Pet Emergency Clinic, 1152 Terry Parkway, or call 392-1932 for immediate help. Our practice relies on referrals from our clients to grow and be successful.

I have taken my pup here for the last year (my dog's whole life), and I feel safe bringing her here, even when I can't go inside with her. My dog loves them, and she even gets excited when we get to the vet. Any questions that I have are always answered thoroughly, and I have a lot of them since I am a helicopter dog mom. I am glad that I found a place that I know that I can trust to take care of my baby.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Gretna Animal Hospital, LLC . Our dog had two grand mal seizures (which he had never had) this weekend 24 hours apart and the veterinarian and staff really went above… and beyond to make our family feel comfortable. Our normal vet Dr Hesse was not there and I was nervous about someone else seeing him but Dr Boudreaux was so attentive and kind. She really took the time to go above and beyond with her education about the illness and what to look for. We worked together to develop a plan of care for Bentley’s newly diagnosed epilepsy and decided

The staff here is amazing! They are so caring and take their time. We also using their boarding services and they keep you informed, and they love your animals as if they were their own. I had to rush one of my dogs in, and they took us right in and allowed us to stay with our dog until the end. I’m so greatful I don’t have to worry with my dogs in their care.

Dr. Hesse and his staff are absolutely amazing. Our English bulldog Sophia had to have surgery and everyone was so caring and made us feel so comfortable. Most of all they made our baby girl comfortable and… loved in such a stressful situation. Highly, highly recommend that this is the only place you should bring your fur babies!!!

Our dogs just spent the weekend in the boarding facilities and came home worn out! We are new to the area and told them our concerns with our almost 15 year old dog so the observered her while there and met with my husband at pick up. Very caring place and excited to have found a wonderful place so soon after moving here.
