The Downtown Boxing Gym is a free after-school academic and athletic program that provides Detroit students (ages 8-18) with the tools they need to succeed. DBG has a 100% high school graduation rate since 2007, when we opened our doors. Through tutoring, mentorship, enrichment programs, college and career prep, social-emotional skills building, basic needs support (transportation and meals) and so much more, we train kids for life.
The Downtown Boxing Gym currently serves more than 150 students between the ages of 8 and 18. Our students come to us from 30 different zip codes and 57 schools across Detroit and nearby suburbs. Through education, athletics, mentorship and intervention, the Downtown Boxing Gym empowers Detroit students to be positive and productive members of society.

Services
DBG serves 150+ amazing boys and girls from 30 different zip codes and 57 schools across Detroit and nearby suburbs, each with their own unique talents and dreams. Our students at DBG range in age from 8-18 years old, or 3rd-12th grade, and we continue to provide support to our students once they go off to college, through their junior year.
While generous volunteers and participating vendors help reduce certain expenses, the cost to provide one year of services for just one student at the Downtown Boxing Gym still totals $7,000. We have 150 students and an ever-growing waiting list. With your help, we can give more and more children a fighting chance at a winning future!
TUTORS/MENTORS - All of our students receive daily academic support, annual assessment, and assistance with their homework, studying, and project work. We are looking for volunteers to tutor our students in all subjects. Tutors are needed Monday through Friday, from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. We ask that you commit to at least one day per week.
Detroit Public Schools Community District has served about 2.2 million meals to students this school year. Last school year, the district served 9.6 million. The numbers from other large districts in Michigan are similar: Grand Rapids has served 863,169 meals so far this year, compared with 2.8 million last school year.
Whether you have a question about our program, want to get involved or just want to say hello, we'd love to hear from you. While our programs are full right now, we are working diligently to expand and grow our program to serve every student we can. If additional spots become available, we will re-open the enrollment process and offer tours at that time.

Just got my Tommy Hearns shirt from them and its perfect quality and size. I accidentally ordered the wrong size at first and they immediately refunded me after I told them about it through email. Excellent company I recommend everyone check em out!

We can't say enough about the Downtown Boxing Gym's staff! We recently hosted our wedding there (their first ever) and our experience couldn't have been better. Leading up to the event, the staff was incredibly helpful in hosting a walkthrough for us (and our vendors) to get a sense of layout and space planning. They worked with us to customize the spaces that were available to us, so it would work for our needs (including our band in one of the boxing rings - so fun!). By the day we did load-in, the space was spotless and sparkling clean, ready to welcome our loved ones. Their team worked collaboratively

They are doing great work at this Youth program totally different from any other programs in Detroit. Books before Boxing is their motto, and the kids must work on their homework or with a tutor each day before they are allowed to participate in the boxing program (which is not mandatory). Very worthy of your time and financial donations.
