Services
Back in 1888 Myron C. Combs founded the original Meserole Funeral Home conducting funerals form a small two room one story building on Lord Ave. For many years Mr. Combs was the only funeral director in the area known as "The Rockaways". In 1921 Frank D. Meserole after becoming a licensed funeral director joined his uncle in the business.
PrePlan is a funeral trust pre-funding program, backed by the New York State Funeral Directors Association, Inc.,t hat is the nationally-recognized leader in managing prepaid funeral and burial accounts. It currently administers over 85,000 of these consumer trust accounts for the more than 600 funeral homes in New York State.
He was a long-time resident of Inwood, NY for 50 years before moving to The Bristal in North Woodmere, NY in 2020. He was married for 53 years to the late Gertrude (Dunton) Leff and leaves behind two daughters: Leah Klein of Israel and Anne Leff who resides with her husband Peter Lloyd-Evans in Arlington, MA.

Don, I am so very happy that we found you during the hardest time of my life! Thank you so very much for all your help! Thank you for being so attentive to my sorrow! And especially for all your kind words that helped us (my children included)! Your funeral home was the last we visited, and you made me feel like I had arrived home.

Can't begin to explain how amazing, patient and caring Donny Caratozzolo is. Made the day much smoother than we could have anticipated. Everything was beautiful and well organized! Even got us last minute banners when the florist left ours out. My family had a lot to deal with and I just wanted everything perfect for our final goodbye to my grandpa. Thank you so much for doing what you do with the class and respect you do it with. Third family burial here (first "closest" to me) and I'll keep recommending and using Meserole! You will not be disappointed or let down.

We recently lost a loved one suddenly. Unexpected loss of curse is bad enough. The Covid crisis adds some layers of difficulty to the process of saying goodbye in a safe, loving and respectful way. Donny Caratozzolo was an absolute God send during this process. His gentle guidance, expertise and and desire to find the best way to handle arrangements was so reassuring. One of the BEST professional places you need when having to see your loved one off in death.

My Dad passed away in NY in late October and because my husband and I are high risk for COVID, we were not able to travel from New Mexico for a funeral or burial I called Don and he handled everything by phone, arranging a burial at the VA, getting all the information from me, and sending me the death certificates. There were delays at the VA, and Don called them himself and got the approval for us. He was kind and responsive to my calls and very sympathetic to our problems and heartache. I recommend Meserole and Don without reservation.

Exceptional service and care. Came for a funeral for an out of state family member and the process from beginning to end was well organized/done with attention to detail. Staff was attentive and caring to my family’s needs. The makeup and hair was done so beautifully, I know she would be satisfied with the job well done. The procession from the funeral home to the church to the cemetery was so well organized. My entire family is very satisfied, I would recommend!
