1 in 4 youth in our country competes with mental health challenges, yet there are very few services for job preparation and fostering life-long skills and well-being. Mental wellness is vital to having a successful, healthy life. It can be a very difficult challenge when your family member or friend is battling mental challenges.
Services
Josh's Hope was co-founded by Steve and Julie Jarrell Bailey in 2010 following the 2008 murder of their son, Josh, who lived with lifelong mental health issues and learning disabilities. Josh was adopted by the Baileys in 1996 at the age of 8 and lost his Medicaid benefits on his 18th birthday, leaving him unable to consistently access his mental health treatment.
Josh had lifelong mental-health issues and learning disabilities, as well as recurring substance-abuse issues in the last two years of his life. Josh was also a loving, creative, joyful and adventurous young man who had hopes and dreams for his own future. Like many people living with mental illness, Josh's disabilities made him vulnerable to victimization.
It's not easy raising a child on the Autism Spectrum, much less two - twins - a boy and a girl. My husband and I learned the hard way that there aren't many community resources to help young adults who are diagnosed with both Autism and mental health issues.

We were losing hope in finding a program that would embrace our kids' unique needs, nurture them, focus on their strengths and teach them skills that could open opportunities for them and build their self-confidence, give them a sense of accomplishment. But we found all of that at Josh's Hope.

If so, then the new Accelerated Woodworking curriculum at Josh's Hope might be for you. The faster-paced course will teach skills needed for basic entry level employment at businesses such as hardware and home improvement stores, cabinet and furniture making companies, construction companies and even entrepreneurial pursuits making and selling handcrafted wooden products, such as cutting boards, coasters, benches, stools, candle holders, etc.
