We joke that our slogan should be "we agonize over every doorknob." Because we do. Nothing we design, build, or select is cookie cutter, which makes every decision on every house fresh and new. And it shows. Headquartered in beautiful Newburyport, Massachusetts and co-owned and run by George and Lyndsey Haseltine, Windward Shaw designs custom homes and renovates properties on the North Shore.
While modernized with the latest technology, the homes we build and renovate share a deeply timeless sense of style. From cozy coastal cottages to welcoming farmhouses, we build with materials and styles that have stood the test of time like reclaimed beams, classic lighting fixtures, and hand crafted built in book shelves (which, by the way, also hide the latest operating boards for whole house audio systems.)
Our recent work includes homes that were built and sold on the real estate market, as well as renovations and custom builds for existing customers. When a busy family of four decides they love their home, but are quickly outgrowing it, they call on us. By adding a large addition, the square footage jumped from 2100 to 3100 square feet - with nearly every inch of the house renovated or custom built.

Prior to jumping into a major custom renovation of our multi-generational family home, we interviewed several high-end builders in the Newburyport area, all of whom were highly recommended. From the minute we met George, we knew we would be very comfortable working with Windward Shaw. We discussed with George our important criteria including high-quality workmanship, timing, communication and of course coming in on budget. George Haseltine built a house next to me mine. While tearing down the old house and fence that abutted my property, they damaged a small retaining wall and planter in my driveway. George promised several times that he would come by and get it taken care of. Finally after repeated attempts he stopped replying to texts, well over a year later.

George Haseltine and the Windward Shaw crew are top shelf. We had the opportunity to see his work prior to starting our project as he built homes for a few of our friends. Although our homes are all different, his signature of quality work and unique finishes shows through on all of his projects.
George is very responsive and extremely professional, as are his staff and subcontractors. He is also great to have on your side in working with the Board of Health and the Conservation department as he is very diplomatic and diligent.
