After practicing family optometry in Hiawatha, Kansas for 30 years, Dr. Metzger, his wife and daughter had an idea - to open a different kind of eye care practice that would help patients with vision performance needs. KCVP opened in 2005 and is the still the only vision center in the Kansas City area focused solely on the full spectrum of functional optometry - vision therapy, neuro-optometry, and low vision rehabilitation.
Services
Before joining Kansas City Vision Performance Center, Kristen Marquis worked as an occupational therapy assistant for 11 years in metro area school districts. Her love of working with children lead her to seek options for students she knew where having vision problems in the classroom. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the KCVPC therapist team.
Patients come to us with a wide range of symptoms that affect quality of life. Our goal for each individual is the same-to deliver a unique approach to optometry that builds vision success. In addition to the importance of seeing clearly and having healthy eyes, every person needs 17 vision skills and visual processing abilities to succeed in our sight-driven world.
At KC Vision Performance, we treat patients of all ages experiencing vision difficulties. We are not your typical eye care provider. We do not see patients for routine eye exams, prescriptions, or surgery. Dr. Metzger provides functional vision exams and treatment for all ages, from infants to 101 years of age.
Dr. Metzger and his staff offer workshops designed for medical professionals and educators. Each workshop is unique and hands-on. We tend to keep them small to allow for personal interaction between participants and the speaker. Workshops and in-services can be given to as few as five or as many as 50 attendees.
Vision therapy is often described as "physical therapy" for the eyes AND brain. Optometric vision therapy (also called behavioral or developmental optometry, functional vision, orthoptics, vision or visual training, eye training, vision therapy or VT) is the part of optometric care devoted to developing, improving and enhancing visual performance for children and adults.

My mother and I wanted to give a special thanks to Dr. Metzger and his staff for the great job they did. She recently had a stroke and lost a large portion of her peripheral vision. He really helped by installing confidence and creating a path to improve her visual function and performance. Thank you so much!!

I had my first visit with Dr. Metzger yesterday, and I absolutely loved it. I have suffered from a pretty decent concussion 3.5 months ago and in result I have had very strained/weak eyes. He was very informative and very detailed in the testing of my eyes. Extremely knowledgeable and it was also interesting to see the tests that he performed!

I only gave it one start because that I had to assign at least one.
My son was scheduled to see this doctor. I became ill (bronchitis and respiratory infection). I was trying not to cancel the appointment, but at 8:30 the day of, I called because I just feel awful with fever.
I was coldly told by Jana I had to pay $50.00 cancellation fee. She argued that I was advised of the fee two months ago when I scheduled it. Maybe I was, but was sure I'd be there. Unfortunately, life happens.
However, I thought my illness might merit a bit of compassion and patience. It did not. I don't care if I have
