My interests and research fall within the areas of estate planning and immigration, and the intersection of the two fields. Within estate planning, I focus on personalized estate plans for my clients, as I do not believe estate planning is one size fits all. The planning aspects of this field become increasingly more important when dealing with clients who have taxable estates and businesses in which they have an ownership interest.
Not every estate is a taxable estate, but not having a plan in place can cause tax issues and leave your estate paying additional fees that could have been avoided. At North County Legal, APC, we help clients establish plans in the event of incapacity, disability, or death. Our plans are individually tailored to each client's situation, directing where the clients' assets will go and how their assets will be managed.
Most people assume that if they passed or became incapacitated, that one of their loved ones would be able to easily handle all their matters. Many do not realize that there are laws in place which dictate how your assets would be distributed upon your death. Laws, which you may not fully agree with.
As parents, you are use to making decisions on behalf of your children, however as soon as your child turns 18, that stops. Most young adults do not realize the importance of having the proper initial estate planning documents in place should they want their parents to continue helping them with financial decisions or medical decisions.
This is something all of us are familiar with. Taxes must be paid, but if there is a legal way to reduce your tax bill to put more money into your pocket, rather than the government's pocket, chances are, you will choose the path that benefits you directly. During your life, you pay sales tax, State income tax, Federal income tax, property taxes, and so on.
