I have learned that practicing criminal defense law requires a thorough knowledge of the Federal and Michigan State Constitutions and relevant case law, rules of procedure and local practice, as well as a familiarity with the personalities of judges and prosecutors. Prior to going out on my own I gained invaluable experience working at both the Federal Defender Office in Detroit, as well as working closely with one of the best Criminal Defense Attorneys in the State, Michael Rataj. Because of this, I have been able to truly understand the inner-workings of the Criminal Justice system.

I am dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals who have been arrested and charged with a crime. After obtaining a major in criminal justice from Michigan State University, I came to the realization that I would not work within the criminal justice system, but I could work in a way to keep that very system in check.
Unfortunately, many Americans do not have comprehensive knowledge as to their constitutional rights. For most people, the first time they become aware of their rights is when they are, or a loved one is, charged with a crime. You have the right to remain silent without adverse inference. In other words, a judge or jury cannot infer guilt at a trial if you exercise your right to remain silent.
