The SnowMansion Taos Adventure Lodge and Hostel is steeped in the history and traditions of Taos, Taos Ski Valley and Northern New Mexico since as long as anyone can remember. The Village of Arroyo Seco was founded by artists, farmers, ranchers, gamblers, outlaws and adventurers in 1800. The Chase Mercantile Company General Store, which preceded the SnowMansion, was built in 1930 and supplied, clothed and fed said artists, farmers, ranchers, gamblers, outlaws and adventurers until 1960.
In 1960 it became an episcopal church ski lodge for faithful and adventuresome ski groups headed to the fledgling Taos Ski Valley, where their faith was surely tested on the bumpy dirt road and surely rewarded on steep terrain that dominated the the Taos Ski Valley experience in the early days.

The lounge/ sitting area is very nice and has puzzles, games, books, pool table, chess. That is a plus but the shower area in the room doesn't have any hooks or bars to hang clothes, towels etc. We were on the first floor and could hear every step people upstairs took. Constant creaking specifically in the morning was bothersome. They did provide earplugs though if it is any consolation.
I will change my 2 star to a three star because I did enjoy the lounge.

We're staying in the pearl annex but I'm sure all the rooms are as beautiful as ours. Old hardwood, updated bathrooms with big tubs. Most importantly, the grounds are GORGEOUS, the staff (Amu) is absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere is unbeatable if you're looking for something down to earth and friendly. My kid found a treehouse and a sandbox just roaming around on her own. The gardens are inspiring. I wish I could just live here all summer. You can not beat this spot. Book it!

I loved it here. I had booked the wrong night and the host was kind enough to accommodate me and I got to stay in the balcony suite. It was comfortable, clean and had character. The host gave me a perfect tip for a day trip to the Rio Grande Gorge. The Lodge had everything I needed and is in walking distance from a great cafe and market, restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay at the SnowMansion again :)

This place is so unique and wonderful. The old world lodging is so comfortable and the location is perfect. So close to the Ski Resort and the Other great Recreational areas. The village has groceries and cafes and galleries and restaurants just steps away from the hotel. Guest services are communicative and responsive. Neat place!

I've stayed here twice now and will likely be back. It is a charming place decorated in the local style. Perfect proximity to the town of Taos and Taos Ski Valley. I love that there is a full kitchen. It's not fancy, but that's not what you're paying for if you're staying here. It is a comfortable place to stay.

As somewhat of a professional vagabond, I have stayed in about every level of accommodation you can imagine in my journeys on the road. Seldom do I find a place like the Snow Mansion with eclectic originality, comfortable accommodation, and a friendly staff that makes you feel like family. I have stayed at the Snow Mansion every time I visit Taos and it has become somewhat of a spiritual recharging center for me. While just a few minutes drive from town, being nestled in the hills of arroyo seco gives you profound peace and quiet with top notch establishments like Sol Foods, Abe's, and Taos

My 25 year old daughter and I stayed very affordably at this lovely quaint inn and we will definitely be back. Simple and clean. Very warm and Hospitable owners and employees. Amu, our host, was so gracious! He is very knowledgeable of the area, and we felt very safe and welcomed from the moment we entered. Communal breakfast area meant we met fellow travelers which was also nice. It is a healers community, ask about the acupuncturist onsite! We will return again!!

The Snow Mansion is great! Well decorated, warm, cozy atmosphere with a friendly, helpful staff. Nice way to experience Taos, you will meet cool folks staying at this hostel. Communal kitchens are clean and functional, with cute areas to eat and chat. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and the night time is quiet and peaceful for a good rest. Good location in quaint Seco Arroyo, where there's a coffee shop, and health food store with a tasty kitchen and restaurants nearby.

Wonderful hostel! Easy check in process, clean and cool hippie vibe in the mountains, comfortable bed, and great location. Amu was a wonderful host and helped set me up with a nice room when the one I initially wanted was booked (my fault--I tried booking a few hours before check in. Awesome flexibility!).
The SnowMansion has the most comfy, southwest feel to it, and my travel buddy requested we stay here the next time we come to Taos!
Really fun, community atmosphere and a plethora of resources available. 5/5, would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

I found it clean, but the place is very old, and the floors are squeaky!
The place was very homely and the kitchen smelled like butter. Some of the others were having a fire outside, and I joined them. They were recommended to come here before starting Earthship Academy. I like how they have the fridge set up with designated communal shelves, and I was impressed by the free diy breakfast. Their kitchen supplies are vast. The bed was alright, but not super comfortable. I wish hostels outside of Mancos discovered mattress toppers. It was clean, and I had no concern with sleeping or using the bathroom

This is a great cozy warm space in a beautiful area. Lots of trees and beautiful nature in and around property. The rooms are cozy and comfy beds. The fire is always on this season and loving the lounging areas in hostel. There are gardens out back and dinner every night for a donation. Lots of organic food and food from the garden served at dinner made by the staff here. I'm loving being in this town, and it's close to the ski areas, mountains, hot springs and taos. The cabins out back you can rent are adorable and there is a huge kitchen guests can store their food in and cool in. The

When we arrived on the afternoon of our wedding anniversary we were offered a private room for a very good rate. The man at the desk was very, very helpful with booking the room and offered several recommendations for the evening. He even helped with hiking options for the next morning. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The wifi was good enough that we were able to stream Netflix. The other guests were very friendly but also extremely courteous and quiet. One even offered his own personal holistic medicine when he found out I wasn't feeling well. The kitchen is spectacular! My wife

I love hostels. I've had amazing experiences staying in hostels in China, Europe, South America, etc. But I've never been so sketched out by a hostel until the SnowMansion. When my husband and I stayed there, we saw a dead rat in the kitchen. This place could be so cool (indeed, Arroyo Seco is a cute little town and tipis are always a fun idea). But alas, until the owners resolve the cleanliness issue, please stay far, far away.

Wow, what a place. First off, Arroyo Seco and Taos are such beautiful places to be-- home of Carson National Forest, Earthship Biotecture, Taos Pueblo. Wow.
There's a huge organic garden in the backyard that Moona (who I believe owns the place) uses to teach a bunch of WOOFffrs natural/herbal medicine. A communal dinner is cooked every evening [the night I stayed it was vegan stuff too!], and you can grab a plate for a small donation to the chef du'jour. There's a summer kitchen in the backyard, which is very lovely. During my visit a group of 9th graders from an inner city Denver

Stayed here one night for a weekend of skiing at Taos. Great location, not in downtown Taos but still near everything you need. Seemed pretty clean. Rooms were warm and fairly comfortable. Not too noisy. Towels provided at no charge. Most of the staff were friendly. The dinner prepared looked good but we opted to go out for dinner instead.
We booked a 'cabin' but were upgraded b/c so few guests were there. We greatly appreciated this excellent customer service. We did, however, ask to see the cabin that we had booked before we accepted the upgrade and were pretty shocked at what they

I've happened to stay here several times since early 2012 and this is one of my favorite US hostels. I always make a point to stop near Taos when I'm traveling south just because I love the atmosphere of this hostel and it's surrounding area in Arroyo Seco.
I usually stay in the cabins because I love to be able to walk outside at night and see the stars. Its so open and clear. The cabins are small and cozy, comfortably fit two people. I have stayed in the female dorm once and had no problem. (except some older lady who woke up in the middle of the night screaming in her sleep but

This place is awesome. We have stayed here two times and if you're looking to stay somewhere unique, friendly and all around cool, this is the place.
It's hard to describe what makes this place so cool but one thing I love is that so many people are at home here. It's not just for people in their twenties (though we and many of the staff are); there were also lots of older folks around, places for kids (though we didn't see any) and everyone feels free to mingle (or not). The main hostel area has a cozy living room type space and a big kitchen where they cook yummy food from

I recently came back here for a 5 day stay after remembering the great time I had the last time I stayed. The ski season quite had not started yet in Taos, so it was a pretty quiet time of the year and Mouna graciously gave me the best room at Snowmansion.
