Desert Oak was slated for demolition when purchased in 1996. The home was gutted and rebuilt [a new roof was installed, which enabled us to put in 6 skylights, new plumbing, new electrical, actually new everything ] so you get the charm of an old adobe but the conveniences of a new one. The design is in keeping with traditional southwest detailing and materials, though it has a slightly contemporary edge.

From the moment you walk through the custom latilla gate into a private courtyard, you are surrounded by the comfort of a unique home designed in an elegant, southwestern style.
Desert Oak has a five foot high adobe wall in front of the home, which creates a private and comfortable courtyard, with tables and chairs, ideal for coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening or a romantic dinner under the stars. French doors from the Living Room and the Suite conveniently open on to the courtyard.

Four friends and i just returned from Taos, NM for our (28th) annual ski trip. We have skied & stayed at many places over the years, and there is nothing like Taos. One of the things that made the trip memorable was staying at Taos Desert Oak. This is an authentic Adobe home was in ruins before it was restored and saved from demolition. It is downtown and walking distance to some great shops and restaurants. It is on a quiet street and blends in perfectly with the New Mexico landscape.
