At Discovery Inn, we pride ourselves in offering clean, comfortable rooms equipped with everything you need for a memorable stay on San Juan Island. All of our rooms feature individually controlled central heat and air conditioning, and there is plenty of free parking. These are our most spacious rooms, located on the 1st and 2nd floor of the Inn.
The park like grounds at Discovery Inn are the perfect place to enjoy. Filled with Adirondack chairs, swings and benches, there are plenty of places to relax and enjoy a quiet moment. Before or after a fun day of exploring San Juan Island, relax in our large outdoor hot tub. There are several BBQ grills and picnic tables throughout the lawn at Discovery Inn, so if you want to have a cook out, we are all set for you!

Not my first stay and certainly won’t be my last. This is my home away from home when visiting my son and there is a reason. The cleanliness is off the charts. The feeling of family with Terri and the rest of the crew is unparalleled. They are the definition of “true hospitality “ and should be proud of what they provide. The grounds are immaculate with many added features such as lawn games and bbq materials. You cannot go wrong with this property!

I had a great stay at Discovery Inn. I arrived on the latest ferry and they were very accommodating for my late arrival. It was easy to find and check in. My room was very clean and comfortable. They had really thoughtful touches such as coffee/tea in every room and a recycle bin. After checking out, I was walking downtown with all my luggage and the owner saw me and offered me a ride. I really appreciated how helpful and kind that was. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

When we checked in, they gave us the wrong key so we ended up walking into a room that was already occupied, scaring the guests. On our second day, the owner walked into our LOCKED room in the morning when we were laying in bed watching TV. He assumed we already checked out even though checkout time was 3 hours later, and didn’t apologize for either of these issues nor offered a discount on our stay. This is a serious safety and security issue, DO NOT STAY HERE. Also for what it’s worth, we never saw a single employee wearing a mask even though they are required everywhere in San Juan County

Super, super cute hotel. When looking for places to stay on the island that didn’t break the budget, we chose this one and it has been great. The place looks very new, and our room was extremely clean. My favorite personal little touch is soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers installed into the shower. Super clever and convenient and eco-friendly as opposed to the miniature bottles you sometimes get. Great and friendly owners too!

Such a gem of a hotel! Immaculate grounds, cover precautions taken, great staff and service. I never have had a hotel be a highlight of a trip but this one was, hands down! Not too far from all Friday Harbor has to offer yet a secluded little getaway that was absolutely perfect. I was sad to leave it!! Everything exactly like on the website.

You can tell, whoever the owners are, that they care deeply about hospitality. At first sight the exterior and park like grounds are kept immaculate. Upon entering the room it smells and looks clean and has everything you would find in a typical Inn; fridge, microwave, coffee (with plenty of extra coffee, creamer, sugar etc.) TV and a very clean bathroom. I thought since there's a knob sign that says "do not disturb" on one side and "please make up room" on the other that I would need to hang the later to have my room turned down. I didn't think I needed to bother

This is a great hotel to stay at while on the island! I wasn't able to check in until later in the night after the office closed which I didn't realize closed at 8pm, Katie actually called me to make sure I was ok with directions, she emailed me with how to get into the room after they closed up which was so easy and helpful since I was still driving around exploring the island and barely had any cell signal to keep on the phone long. The hotel itself was very clean and looked like it had all been remodeled recently, the bed was very comfortable and clean. The price I paid was great for

This little gem is outstanding. I work in hotels, so I know the business and I was BLOWN AWAY by the customer service. The front desk manager (cannot remember her name, I think it was Katie...blonde hair...sweetest lady ever) was SO kind and helpful. She deserves some type of award in customer service. She remembered it was my friend's birthday and wished her a happy bday. She knew we were there to see Orcas and when we were disappointed we didn't see them the first day, she eagerly asked the second day and was genuinely so happy for us that we did. She was so genuine and hospitable.

LOVE! I cannot say enough how much we loved this place. When we checked in, Matt was super helpful and helped us figure out where to eat dinner and told us the best way to drive around the island and the must-sees. The property was very cute and inviting. There were benches everywhere and shade and greenery, we were sad we didn't have more time to spend! They also had a nice big outdoor spa that we didn't get to take advantage of. The room was SO clean. Everything in the room was very simple, so it looked very clean. The bathroom was very clean and a good size! We had the room with two

We arrived late, after attending a wedding at Roche Harbor. The way the inn looked, with string lights glowing around the porches, was so warm and inviting. Walking up the stairs, cherry blossoms hugging the porch, I stated aloud "this place seems out of a fairy tale!". Somehow reminding me of a place I read about as a kid, and so much of that memory conjured just by arrival.

Loved my quick one night stay during the first weekend of February. Welcoming managers and great, spacious room! I appreciated being upgraded from a standard queen room to a deluxe queen upon arrival. Can recommend a rental car or a taxi to get to the inn because it is quite a walk from the ferry landing!

This is a well maintained, and updated older place. Good location, just a a bit out of the town center. Matthew, at the desk, was very warm and welcoming and gave us some good restaurant tips.
Comfortable clean room. Great heat and hot water. Nothing to complain about unless you like noise, there was none!

Loved our stay at the Discovery Inn. Super-helpful staff provided helpful restaurant advice that was tailored to our special dietary needs. Room was clean and comfortable, grounds looked inviting though we did not have much chance to spend time exploring. And we got a hand-made Happy Anniversary greeting with extra chocolates in our room when we arrived. A very nice, personalized touch! Sorry to have to leave.

Outside there were flowers everywhere and a large grassy, shaded area to picnic, relax, and play yard games if desired (volleyball, ring toss, etc.). There were only two of us but this would be a great spot to bring a family if you're looking for a nice spot to relax outside of the room.

My wife & I stayed here Monday - Thursday as Friday Harbor rookies. This place worked out great. We enjoyed the fact that the rooms are not like a downtown Seattle chain. They're a bit of a step back in time. Had to use actual keys to get in the room. Not plastic cards.
We were greeted by Missy as we checked in. She was quite helpful with the in's & out's of touristy locations and restaurants. Follow her lead!
It obvious that the room had been renovated. It was very clean. A big plus for me were the room darkening blinds. Amen! So glad not to have deal with the early light

I think this inn is in between 3-4 stars. It was our families first time visiting Friday harbor and we weren't sure where everything was located or where we should stay... I booked discovery inn because of all the great reviews. Let's start with the good..
-Great that they offer complimentary water and chocolates!
-Loved the park like setting, it was a nice place for all 13 of us to have lunch and dinner together without feeling cooped up in a room.
-Loved the fridge and microwave
-Spacious and clean rooms
-Sad they wouldn't let us check in early

This is our first time to Friday Harbor and San Juan Island. Discovery Inn is super easy to get to and get in and out of. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are a couple swings and chairs around to simply sit and enjoy. The whole place is quiet and relaxing. The staff is super helpful at recommending places to eat. Love that there is tea and hot cocoa in the registration area available throughout the day. The beds are soft and comfy. Everything is clean and well kept. We will be returning here.
Only downside is the hot tub is not hot, but luke warm. Each room has a fan in the window
