Kaprelian Carpet Company was established in 1969 by current owner Gabriel Kaprelian on Hudson Street in Ridgewood, NJ. In 1972 the business was moved to its main location at 211 East Ridgewood Avenue. In 1974 John Yilanjian (a childhood friend of Gabriel's) joined the company as a partner. Also in 1974 Kaprelian Carpet Company became incorporated as Kaprelian Oriental Rugs & Carpets, Inc.
In 1983 the Hawthorne Warehouse and Outlet was opened. In 1991 Gabriel's son Glenn Kaprelian joined the company and began managing the Hawthorne location. In 1992 the Hawthorne Outlet was made into a full carpet show room. The Hawthorne location has gone through 2 expansions since then, and now carries a full range of specialty flooring as well as commercial and residential carpeting.
