Stone Cliff Winery is a family owned and operated winery. The vineyard is located in the beautiful rolling hills north of Dubuque in Eastern Iowa. Bob and Nan Smith, the proprietors, planted the vineyard in 1995 and had their first product offering in 2001. Their production and Tasting Room is now located in the Historic Star Brewery Building in the Port of Dubuque along the Mississippi River, Dubuque, Iowa.
Services
In 1996, Nan and Bob Smith, future vineyard owners, decided to return to Nan's hometown of Dubuque, to raise their two daughters in a small town environment. They purchased the Stone Cliff Farm near Durango Iowa and planned to conventionally farm the land.
However, as happens in life, one thing lead to another, and one day over a good bottle of wine, Bob and Nan Smith thought maybe they could do something different with their farm, like raise grapes and maybe eventually operate a winery to turn those grapes into wine. They immediately started going to conferences and taking classes to learn the wine industry as well as the art of making wine.

Our party of five was seated at a table in the corner of the building that nobody paid attention to. We were served drinks first and took multiple attempts to flag down the server for further orders. After we placed an appetizer order we never saw our server again. When I received the $20 charcuterie board that I ordered there were three types of meat cut into pieces of two that were far too thick for any cracker and they gave us 10 crackers with six choices of meats. The knife supplied was the dullest knife I've ever used, it imposed a significant threat of injury to myself as I used it. Once

We were just here today. Completely charmed by the ambience as well as the town in general. Great service with fun and knowledgeable waitstaff. Very robust menu with tantalizing choices. We all ate the half… and half menu which consisted of a Flatbread choice, a sandwich choice or a soup choice. Great wine. selections and we definitely bought to take home. Another good restaurant in a fabulous Mississippi River town.

Second visit here and we just love it! Excellent food and exceptional staff. Today they were short staff and very busy, but the staff working did and excellent job accommodating all guests. In a time where it's increasingly difficult to find staff and cover illness, these staff members showed their dedication and ethic to hard work and customer service. Shout out to to today's team who's hard work and dedication deserves

I enjoy their wine a lot. I enjoy dry wine and had their cabernet. My my husband and friend enjoy sweet and had their strawberry rhubarb and my friend enjoyed the Purple cow.
We hold off from going as often as we like since they are not flexible on their charcuterie board for a vegetarian. We had someone come along who had the meat portion this time and they did put it on a separate plate since I have an allergy. It would be nice to be able to order a charcuterie that can be adapted for a vegetarian to enjoy and/or pay for extra cheese to add on.
I would love to see a chocolate pairing board

Visited this winery in a fascinating beer museum located on the port. Loved the layout and design of the tasting room. Large windows light the whole room up like you are sitting outside. Staff is very helpful and well versed in wine making process and history of the winemaker.
Favorite part about this winery in the wine. Tasting includes generous pours and option to purchase glass for a very low price. I like sweet wines and was very impressed with their selection of them. All prices were very reasonable which encouraged me to by several.
Loved the Jazz-berry Port and will defiantly be coming
