Edna Lee Dance Studio was founded in 1957 by Edna Lee Kuhn with Saturday classes at the Linthicum Fire Hall. In the mid 1960's, when Edna Lee and husband, Gene, built a new house for their growing family, the studio was moved to the basement of that home until 1981. Now located in the Burwood Village Center in Glen Burnie, with four studio rooms and a dance attire store, the school is equipped to handle over 300 students.
Services
EDNA LEE DANCE STUDIO strongly believes that Ballet is the base of all dance and a very necessary part of basic training for the young dancer. ELDS offers programs that satisfy the needs of the serious student as well as the recreational dancer - from tiny tots to senior citizens.

Young children beginning at age 3 start with the "Introduction to Dance" program where they are introduced to the studio, how to behave, the counting of music and basic kinetic movements with simple ballet. We believe this 45 minute program prepares the tot for technique classes which begin when they are 5 years old and are ready for "Combination 1" and start to learn the basics of Ballet and Tap over the course of 1 hour.
Young female students wear leotards and tights with hair back in a bun or pony tail and males wear black bike shorts or tights with white t-shirt. As a rule, we limit our classes to 16, however, there are exceptions according to the will of the individual teacher. The Combination class combines 2 - 3 disciplines: Ballet and Tap (1st year) and Jazz is added the 2nd year.

I was a student at Edna Lee Dance Studio in 1977 when it was located in Ms. Edna's house in Linthicum. I later studied with her and her instructors at Burwood Plaza in the the mid 80s. Ms. Edna was the best dance instructor I ever had, and she fueled my passion for ballet which I still practice at the age of 60. My college ballet instructors were great, but they never had the gift for teaching that Ms. Edna had. I adored her, and if the current owners of the studio continue in her tradition of excellence, I can't imagine a better school of dance.
