Thanks for taking the time to visit our little spot on the web. I'm Dr. Eric, co-owner and Dentist at Altoona Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. On a wing and a prayer we opened our door for business in 2011. Since that time I've been delighted to have so many new faces and personalities through our doors, and honored to have patients be willing to travel to us.
After graduating from Southeast Polk High School in 2002, I attended Iowa State University for undergraduate studies. I am a graduate of The University of Iowa College of Dentistry class of 2009. While attending The University of Iowa I met my incredible husband, Daniel. We were married at St. John and Paul in Altoona in July of 2008, and now have two amazing children, Isabelle and Benjamin.
I always knew I wanted to find something that would let me talk to people and get to know them, work with my hands, and leave a positive influence on my community. Dentistry is a career that allows for all that while providing an awesome opportunity to serve others. I grew up in a farm family and have loved the opportunity to help with the operation.
I was born and raised in Ankeny, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa for undergraduate studies followed by graduating from the College of Dentistry in 2015. After dental school, I practiced in Phoenix, AZ for three years before deciding to move back to central Iowa. Since moving back to Ankeny, I married my wonderful husband Andrew in May of 2019.

I love Altoona Smiles. I was looking for a new dentist that offered Invisalign and was recommended to try Altoona Smiles after my best friend started working there. Every person I have worked with is great! Dr. Nicole is very helpful and explains a lot so I fully understand the process. Amber the Care Coordinator was so kind when I was figuring out how to finance my Invisalign. Joy, Tiffany, Jensen, and Darcy have been some of the best people to work with and they make going to the dentist enjoyable and fun! Experience starts right when you walk in the door. Greeted with welcomes and happy faces! Every staff member is exceptional at making you feel comfortable and are friendly! I didn’t like going to the dentist office until I went to Altoona Smiles, now it doesn’t bother me to go. They work with you to get you over the fear of dentist visits and take great care of your mouth!

My hygienist, Emily makes going to the dentist not something I get anxiety over any more!! From the front of the office to Amber in financing they make the whole process painless and easy!!

Very pleased with Altoona Smiles. Going to the dentist is not high on my list of things I enjoy. The staff is very friendly and professional. Sabrina especially is great at putting you at ease. Upon arrival I was greeted by Lisa at the front desk who is always so cheerful. Next the hygienist Sabrina put me to ease by kindly answering some questions before my cleaning began. Next I met Dr. Jenni who explained why she was there and asked if I had any questions. I left the dentist feeling good with a fresh and clean smile. Thank you Altoona Smiles!

I had not made my first appointment yet and had an emergency with a crown falling off. Called and left a voicemail message after hours and received a return call the next morning shortly after the office opened. Received an appointment as a new patient and for a crown repair. Impressed before even walking through the door! This is what I call customer service. Looking forward to making this move to a new dentist office located closer to me.

I absolutely LOVE Altoona Smiles. Most people don't look forward to a trip to the dentist, but I enjoy (as much as possible) every trip! The staff immediately greets you and makes you feel welcome. Their check in process is smooth and quick. I've had nothing but great experiences with the hygienists and don't get me started on Dr Jenni! Both her and her support staff are careful, gentle, and do a great job of explaining all of their work. I've been in and out in 45 minutes or less every time. I will continue to go back over and over again as I love supporting good people doing good business.

This place was great. I went in with a bad tooth, and they handled it asap. Even the shots, which usually scare me, were not an issue.
They really took their time to meet with me to learn me dental desires and goals. In the end they met those milestones.
I actually am a little bummed out I have to wait to go back for a teeth cleaning. Without a doubt tho I recommend them to anyone.

I am a new patient and when I arrived I was welcomed with happy faces and great customer service at the reception desk. Next, I was given a tour of their office showing all of their employees, their certification, and their donation wall. when I got into my room I was provided with a "menu" with different comfort options such as a blanket or even nitrous oxide (for an additional fee)! They talked to me about my preferences about my teeth as in what was most important to me (aesthetic, long lasting results, ect.) and how I like my information spooned to me (details or the bottom line

The photos say it all... Thank you SO very much to both Dr. Heather and her incredible staff for their excellent work and for seeing me at the last minute this past Saturday. Unfortunately, I live in Chicago and will not be able continue seeing Dr. Heather in the future, though I wish I could. I would highly recommend Altoona Smiles to anyone who lives in the area!

Was looking to switch to a new dentist [our previous location was fine for a long time, but change in our regular dentist seemed to be happening] so our Daughter-n-Law suggested Altoona Smiles. I went with Dr. Nicole Brummel, and she has went above and beyond in the four trips that I've been to {one was an "on the fly" no appointment tooth extraction on a Friday afternoon} ....the entire staff is professional and courteous. However. The billing department has finally caused me to look for a new dentist. I have dental insurance and have spent thousands of dollars here. The issue is, they call ahead to find out what the ins. Company will pay. They want you to pay the remainder at that visit. For some reason the numbers never match up and the dental office always had a little of MY money on the books.
I have tried unsuccessfully to see me, Bill my insurance, then bill me the remainder. They refuse to do so.
