Northampton Community Music Center
The mission of the Northampton Community Music Center is to foster the love and pursuit of music through quality education, performances and activities that are accessible to all. NCMC was founded in 1986 by Bill Feinstein in cooperation with a small group of parents concerned by the passage of Proposition 2 12 which dismantled many of the music education programs in Northampton's public schools.

After eleven years of operating out of limited, temporary spaces, NCMC finally moved into a home of its own - the historic South Street School building - in 1997, which it leased from the City of Northampton. A capital campaign paid for renovations to the first and second floors of the building, for which NCMC received a Historic Preservation Award from the Northampton Historical Commission in 1999.
Services
What ages do you serve? For group class and ensembles - All ages! We have group classes for infants and toddlers with their caregivers, children's programming, teen classes, mixed age ensembles, and programs for senior citizens. For private lessons - ages 6 and up for most instruments; ages 4 and up for the Suzuki program.
Tuition revenue only covers about 78% of NCMC's annual operating expenses. It takes the financial support of foundations, local businesses, and individual members of the community to keep our doors open, our tuition rates reasonable, and our scholarship program viable. Approximately one in seven students who attend NCMC require financial aid from our scholarship program to do so.
