Jan knows how to help you progress to your next desired level of health and function, even if it's just a little bit beyond where you currently are. Her Personal Training is designed for general exercise or specific functional goals, such as improved strength and endurance, post-rehab conditioning, or medical diagnosis management.
I consider myself a step beyond Physical Therapy, and often interwoven with it, and a step before the typical gym trainer. I fill that niche, and it's a wide niche. I would say that the majority of people fall into this niche in the health continuum between medical disability and exercise enthusiast.

Services
It is the mission of Jan Shaw Personal Training & Massage Therapy of West Columbia, South Carolina to assist clients in maintaining or restoring their optimal state of physiological functioning, thereby reducing the occurrence of physiological dysfunction, disorder, and disease, as well as improving the overall quality of life for her clients.
Your personal training sessions begin with a review of your medical history, current complaints, concerns, and goals. Jan will hear your story and ask you questions. You will then move confidently through a series of exercise tests to determine your current safe abilities. She then designs a program based on your capabilities, goals, and comfort level, and works at your pace to assure you remain safe and confident.
After years as an Exercise Physiologist in a physical rehabilitation setting, I found that many of our patients still had pain and range of motion limitations at discharge from therapy. That wasn't good enough. To offer patients a more full recovery, I became a massage therapist (SC# 1935), later specializing in John F. Barnes' Myofascial Release Therapy.
I am grateful to have worked with so many great clients in my career. My goal is to improve lives by improving the Structure of those lives. As such, I have received hundreds of wonderful reviews. Since no one practitioner is perfect for every client's needs, I will gladly suggest other practitioners or modalities to those clients who need them.

Ms. Jan helped me relieve pain from post tibial tendonitis in my ankle area. She not only loosened up the tightness but also gave me jewels of knowledge to help myself as I recover from this painful condition. Thanks Ms. Jan. I will definitely come back because so many other parts have been aggravated since I have been dealing with the original diagnosis for 2 years.

This lady is a miracle worker! I had broken 3 of my 4 extremities due to a slip and fall. In the last two years I had extensive care from five different Physcial therphists. PT was great, however the other areas of my body had stoved up due to limited activity. I felt that I could get relief if someone would pull on my head and my feet at the same time and just stretch my body out. My stiffness is getting better. My pain has decreased. She is very knowledgeable of what your body needs. She has not only improved my flexibility but my mental state of mind is better. What I thought was going to be
