In 1906, Carl J. Seagren, William Kallasch, Stanley White and Harry Leach organized and incorporated the Illinois Hydraulic Stone and Construction Company. Initially the company manufactured concrete blocks compressed by hydraulic pressure. Concrete blocks were phased out beginning in 1913 when road paving became their primary business.
As time progressed, the company diversified and accelerated their commercial, industrial and institutional building program. The founders retired in 1947 and turned over the management to several employees, including Melvin E. Rakow, and the company name changed to Illinois Hydraulic Construction Company.

Services
As General Contractors, Construction Managers and Design-Builders, we build public and private institutions, infrastructure and more using skilled labor and construction equipment to complete projects on time and within budget. Our experience and resources give us the ability to agilely react to the wide variety of circumstances that can arise during construction.
At IHC we are as flexible in how we deliver construction services as we are diverse in what we build. In any format we are prepared to help our clients, public and private, get the quality product they want for the price they can afford. Construction Manager as Adviser or Constructor (at risk), is a formula to pre-select the company and people who will help you get what you want for the price you can afford in a competitive, open book approach.
Design and construction are creative and fulfilling experiences; incorporating a vision with decision making, reconciling values, a balanced budget, quality performance and precise scheduling. From the design in a conference room, through the labor in the field, to the pride of ownership, construction is a unique experience.
It is the policy of IHC Construction Companies to provide and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, and that a condition of safety consistent with applicable federal, state, and local safety codes is maintained on all IHC projects and worksites. All contractors and subcontractors are also expected to comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and are monitored throughout the project for conformance.
Our Construction Management team offers project management services to the public building sector, with concentration in educational, institutional, healthcare and municipal construction.
