Services
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The technical term for these problems is "malocclusion", which means "bad bite". The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application, and control of corrective appliances, such as braces, to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance.
All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievement-a significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics.

My three children have all been treated by Dr. Murphy and his team and we couldn’t be happier. They never cease to provide a caring, supportive experience. Today’s appointment with my youngest child was no exception and just wanted to share that this is THE place for orthodontic care. What a splendid practice this is! Not only does Dr. Murphy have a warm, friendly, communicating personality, he's also a smart, knowledgeable, expert orthodontist. How wonderful to find all of that in one professional! And, without exception, his staff and assistants are friendly, skilled, and professional as well. Together, they create a wonderful experience for patients. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd rate this practice a 10.

When my kids first started with braces here we had Dr. Lisa Howard. She was fantastic and always very through with appointments, concerns, and questions. We have also always had amazing dental assistants as well as office staff.
When Dr. Chris Murphy took over the practice, nothing changed. The fabulous care continued and he has been an excellent addition. We have enjoyed our time here and would HIGHLY recommend the practice. Both of my kids had phase 1 and 2 braces and there teeth look amazing. Thank you Southern Maine Orthodontics- we are grateful for you!!

We a so thankful for Dr. Murphy and his team. From start to finish they went above and beyond. He has a wonderful personality that makes him likable to all ages. His team were always sweet, patient & friendly and all were great a reading her needs. Never pushed her to do anything she wasn’t ready for. My orthodontic experience at Southern Maine Orthodontics has been Great! From the front desk staff, the techs to Dr. Murphy everyone is kind, caring, professional and knowledgeable. Orthodontic appointments are enjoyable at this practice. Dr. Murphy takes the time to address all his patients concerns and explains all procedures. Getting braces as an adult is not fun! I couldn’t have had a better experience with Dr. Murphy and his staff. They made the process easy and understandable. Cost is always a concern with braces but the pay plans make it painless! And this review wouldn’t be complete with out mentioning Beth! She is the wonderful centerpiece that completes this office! Scheduling, payments, you name it, she does it all and very well!
