With enlightenment as the ultimate goal in life, the Vipassana Meditation Group was formed under the spiritual guidance of the late Venerable U Silananda in 1987. The group progressed until 1991 when it founded Tathagata Meditation Center (TMC). TMC is located on more than 2.5 acres in San Jose, California.

The facilities consist of a Sangha quarters for monks, a meditation hall, separate men and women's quarters, and a kitchen and a dining area. The late Venerable U Silananda Sayadaw was the Chief Meditation Teacher of the Center and Venerable U Thuzana Sayadaw is the Abbot. The Advisory Sangha for TMC are Venerable U Pandita Sayadaw, Venerable Khippa Panno Sayadaw and Beelin Sayadaw.
Services
TMC organizes regular and special retreats to provide meditators with opportunities to practice Vipassana meditation. Regular retreats also known as weekend retreats, take place twice a month, usually two weeks apart, on the weekend. They begin at 5 AM on Saturday and end at 5:00 PM on Sunday. Meditators are welcome to arrive and stay at TMC on Friday night before the retreat starts.
Contents (click to select): What to Bring Instruction Series Daily Schedule - Interview Guideline. Tathagata Meditation Center (TMC) and its retreat organizers gladly welcome all meditators (yogis) to the intensive Vipassana (Insight) Meditation retreat. We hope this retreat will provide a good opportunity for meditators to develop mindfulness necessary for spiritual insights that lead to enlightenment.
Nowadays it's challenging for lay devotees to learn Pi using the traditional method. Learning any new language requires time and continuous studying so students get discouraged quickly when they don't see the fruits of their learning.

To maintain students' interest, Thamanay Kyaw Sayadaw taught Pi through a set of texts that the students frequently use or having high interest in learning them but without having to spend much time learning the grammar. After a short time of learning the students are able to read and understand interesting Pi texts and most importantly enjoy reading them.
Dna is a Pali word that connotes the virtue of generosity, charity or giving of alms. TMC is run solely by volunteers. Our financial support comes from the generosity of people who value what we do. The donations we receive support all our expenses, including our building, publications and meditation retreat.

This was one of my most memorable and incredible experiences ever. They aren't in it for the money as the practicioners are all very serious and they charge a small amount for what they offer... which is invaluable.

Wow, what an amazing center. It’s the real deal.
Mandatory donation was $25/day. 90% of people get their own room. Food included. Very cheap for America in my opinion. You have to send in a check with your application or pay through PayPal (but PayPal has a fee). Other centers usually fill up super fast and have a wait list months in advance, but for some reason this one was pretty easy to apply to. I was skeptical to send a check, but clearly the center is real and there is nothing to be worried about.
I’m not sure if Ha Truong is the coordinator for all month long retreats here, but she

Definitely a place you want to go if you’re looking for awakening. I know it seems kind of silly submitting a review, but I’m hoping this attracts more people.

This place is just what a monastery, a meditation center is. Not a fancy place with big statue, decoration and burning incense like you would expect but a place to teach buddhism and meditation. I highly recommend their program for beginners as well as more advanced folks.
