Gallop Steven J, OD
Dr. Steve Gallop began having vision problems as a young child and started wearing glasses in third grade. He went to the eye doctor at least once a year and each time ended up with stronger glasses. Doctor after doctor simply ignored the visual conditions causing his learning and attention problems, and his progressing nearsightedness (myopia).

The real issues weren't diagnosed until much later when he finally saw a behavioral optometrist - at age 30. Unfortunately, this is all too common. Dr. Gallop knows what it's like to struggle with visual difficulties and how behavioral optometry and vision therapy can help. Behavioral Optometry is based on the understanding that vision is much more than simply having healthy eyes and seeing clearly.

Vision is one of our most wonderful and important gifts. It might surprise you to learn that the visual process is not fully developed at birth. Some still believe that the way we see is hereditary and therefore unchangeable. This is a misguided and often harmful, since it can cause manageable conditions and symptoms to go untreated.
Vision is one of our most wonderful and important gifts. It might surprise you to learn that the is not fully developed at birth. Hopefully, visual development continues as long as we do. Many factors influence visual development. And visual development influences many aspects of life, including child development.
Behavioral optometrists are primarily concerned with visual development and visual performance. We understand that a thorough evaluation of the visual process (how well developed eye movements, eye teaming, focusing, peripheral awareness and visual acuity are and how a person uses these skills to process visual information) tells a great deal about how a person does many things.
There are various styles of practice that reside under the heading of optometry or eye care. Many optometrists are now practicing in a way that very closely resembles ophthalmology. There are numerous issues to be addressed when looking at alternatives in vision care. Conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, strabismus, amblyopia or lazy eye are treatable in a variety of ways.

Exceptional experience - the new eyeglasses I have are the best I've ever had. I actually WANT to wear them! First time in decades! Having a script without the astigmatism correction in the lenses is really eye opening (pun intended)!
