Traditional Shorin Ryu (Sho-Rin-Re-U) Karate is considered the to be one of the oldest styles of Karate, and serves as the foundation for most modern karate practiced in the world today. At NRK Karate, we teach this traditional style of karate directly from birthplace in Okinawa, Japan. NRK Karate teaches traditional Ryukyu Kobudo (ancient Okinawan Weaponry) as a part of our standard training program.
Sensei Lew McFarland is a Second Degree Black Belt in Shorin Ryu Karate, and a Brown Belt in Ryukyu Kobuo (Ancient Weaponry). He began his training with Shihan McCammon in 2012. He decided to start training a year after watching his kids train with Shihan McCammon and thinking that karate training may be good exercise for him.
Sensei Steve Patterson began his training with Renshi McCammon in 2010. He has been Renshi McCammon's right hand man and private student for that entire time. Initially, he was reluctant to begin his training, worrying that he was "too old" to begin the journey, but after constant, and somewhat relentless, encouragement from Renshi he decided to give Karate a shot and join the class.
NRK Karate is a proud member of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Kiyobukan Kyokai. The Shorin-ryu Kiyobukan was founded by the late Hanshi (Grandmaster - 10th Degree Black Belt) Seiei Nakaza to preserve the rich tradition that is Shorin-Ryu Karate.

Hanshi Nakaza, widely hailed as one of the most senior practitioners of Kobayashi Shorin-Ryuof his generation, believed that the practice of Karate should be pure and holistic impacting all aspects of the practitioners life.
Fifty percent play, fifty percent discipline, the Pee Wee Dragons class is design to develop the mind and bodies of students ages 3.5 - 5.5 years old. Classes are held every Saturday, but the fun just keeps going and going! Our basic programs offer training opportunities up to 3 (three) days per week.

All 4 of my children and I are students at NRK. NRK is a family. I love the heartfelt teaching that we receive. Renshi and all of the sensei’s care about the art of Karate and about the principles of Karate as it pertains to life. It is evident that Renshi had excellent master teachers. NRK is the best dojo in North County San Diego.

My daughter started going to the dojo 2 years ago in the "Pee Wee Dragons" class. The experience of watching her grow as an almost four year old that just wanted to goof off to a six year old that can't wait for her next class in the Kids class, has been amazing. Renshi McCammon is excellent with both kids and adults alike (I've now been attending myself for over a year), providing the perfect balance of expertise and excitement for everyone.

NRK karate has become part of our family. We truly love this place. My husband and I have been practicing karate here for about two years and can't wait to get our young children started as well. the McCammons (owners) are amazing, and this place is about so much more than karate.

This is more than a dojo. Sensei McCammon goes beyond just teaching the art of karate and frequently talks about its philosophy and ties that into valuable life lessons. He has infinite patience with the youngest students (starting at age 3) but puts the grown-up deshi through rigorous exercises. All that is rounded up with events like the annual beach day and holiday dinner, bonding all students and sempai together like a family.

Renshi Marques McCammon is a national treasure. I was searching for a physical activity my son and I could do together and was directed by friends to check out Renshi McCammon's dojo that he and his wife, Denise, run. I was touched by how warm and welcoming they were and was impressed by the spaciousness of the dojo. The monthly pricing for both my son and I was reasonable and, as such, I signed up on the spot. This was almost two years ago! My son and I are both blue belts and well on the way to attaining our green belts. Renshi McCammon's individualized training style is unique in that each person

I started training in 1995 and I have been to many dojos around the United States and abroad. This is by far one of the best dojos I have ever had the pleasure of training within. The classes are both physically challenging and mentally stimulating. If you are an experienced Karateka or a beginner I recommend NRK Karate.

Wonderful dojo! Very positive but disciplined. My 8 year old daughter has been taking karate here for about 2 months and every class she increases in knowledge and confidence. They take time to address the many questions these inquisitive children ask and answer them in a manner in which a child can comprehend. They not only teach the moves of karate but also explain the real world application of the moves. Additionally, the Sensei addresses each child in a unique manner to help the individual child grow. I just cannot say enough good things about this dojo. I normally do not give 5 stars for
