Simple Delights Filipino Bakery & Cafe
For breakfast, lunch or take out, we serve delightful filipino favorite meals, savory snacks, desserts, specialty and baked-daily fresh breads. Traditional Filipino items, family-style for up to 100 people or more. Place your order and we'll have it fully prepared for pick up from our shop, on your event day.
Services
Simple Delights was conceived and founded by a group of people who wanted to provide Filipino breads and light meals (merienda) which will remind them of food back home. After 2 years we added an all-day Filipino breakfast consisting of garlic fried rice, eggs with choice of fried beef (tapa), sweetened pork (tocino), sausage (longanisa), dried fish (daing or tuyo), smoked fish (tinapa) and corned beef.

I bought three items for almost $18, a pkg of 6 ensaymada, 5 ube hopia and 8 pandesal. The hopia was delicious, light flaky crust and smooth, tasty ube filling. The ensaymada was not fresh at all, tasted like it was a few days old. Ensaymada is usually light and fluffy but these were hard to press, didn't even soften much when I heated them. The pandesal was ok. IF I go back, will probably only get the hopia.

Definitely plan to come back to try the breakfast items. Thank you!

We are so happy to see a Filipino breakfast place in Morton Grove! We tried 5 of their 7 breakfast combos (see photos).

All are served with garlic fried rice, an over easy egg, and a side of pickled vegetables.

DaingSilog - Marinated Milkfish - very good, a few fish bones
Tocilog - Cured Pork Tocino - tender, flavorful
LongSilog - Filipino Sausage Longanisa - excellent- not too fatty like at other places (Why that name? LONGanisa / SInangag fried rice / itLOG fried egg)
TapSilog - Cured Beef - tasty but a bit dry. Will skip next time
CornBeefSilof - Corned Beef with onions - my personal

I only gave it another star only because the putok is great but only when its fresh. Called when they opened to confirm when they will bake it. Lady over the phone said 1pm. I drove all the way to this place and then when I had asked for the fresh putok she gave me attitude and said to get the old ones because they didnt make it yet. Not to mention all the other times she given me the wrong information. Fire her and get someone new. If shes the owner work on your people skills. These other reviews on here is a joke, just like this place. Food is mediocre at best.

Counter Service. Neighborhood. Enjoyed BBQ PORK that is best consumed when catered with big rice spoons. Puny plastic spoons are a hindrance to enjoying good food. BBQ PORK isn't sweet as others, but an extra calamansi would make it better.

MAMI CHICKEN is so-so with light flavor and just right ingredients.

SMOKED MACKEREL available.

PRICING is a tad high, less than $5 should be appropriate. I don't believe the breakfast combo is a deal but a necessity to enjoy a meal that you need to have rice to enjoy BBQ PORK.

I recently stumbled upon Simple Delights after dropping off something at a nearby big box store. Simple Delights is basically the opposite of anything big box, as it is a quaint Filipino bakery and cafe. The sign in the front window touts an all day breakfast, but I just wanted a snack to go. The cashier said the store has been around for 8 years, and I had no idea that this place has been around this long.

There were a few familiar baked goods on the counter, so I went with a chicken empanada. It was ok but after eating it I soon realized that I was not a big fan of Filipino-style empanadas

The pandesal is very close to what you get in the Philippines. Very good. Their Spanish bread is great.
Their breakfast food/buffet however is subpar. Rice was hard and not cooked well. Barbeque was tough to chew. The halo halo was pretty bad. They tried too hard to be original and ended up with a not so great product. The cashier seemed uninterested to help customers while making us wait for her to finish using her phone. They should stick to pastries/baked goods and forget the food. Also should work on their customer service and at least pretend to be happy to serve the people. The store has

First off, their customer service is horrible. They're plain rude. As soon as I walked in, no one greeted me. I walked up to the counter and two of the people worked there were chatting with another customer. They never even acknowledged me when I got in front of the counter. They stared at me, and asked me what I wanted. I told them what I needed, and they went to get the pandesal. As they were getting it they were chit chatting with each other. Gossiping. I don't think they knew I could understand Tagalog... I was pissed cause they were more worried about talking among themselves instead

How glad I was that I looked at Yelp before I made my food choices- I was hungry enough that I almost gave into the hot dog stand across the street at Home Depot (which actually makes a decent dog) but I held out because Melanie got me with the idea of breakfast. I didn't get breakfast however- I met MUNGGO!!!!!! How have I lived past forty with out experiencing this delicious smoosh of mung beans and whatever else goes in it?? It's like black eyed peas from Asia. I'm hooked.

GO try it.

And who doesn't need a chicken soup called "Mami"? WHY doen't all cultures

Apparently, there's not that many Filipino restaurants in Chicago and if you want any, you have to drive outside the city.

Our aunt felt the need to feed us comfort food and I'm game.

Ensaymada: This is Filipino brioche with smeared butter and sugar sprinkled on top. Pretty good. Plenty of butter and sugar on top.

Tapsilog & Dasilog: Garlic rice is pretty good. They didn't mess up the eggs. The fish was not overly done (aka so dry it turned into jerky). For those of you who don't know what the heck I'm talking about...
