The Youngstown Yacht Club is proud of its heritage, and continues to support the traditions of the sport of sailing in all Club activities. The Youngstown Yacht Club was founded in 1931 by racers from Buffalo who discovered the great weather conditions in Youngstown, NY. Youngstown Community Boating operates Youngstown Junior Sailing and Adult Sailing lessons from the Youngstown Yacht Club property.

The tradition of yacht racing and cruising has been in the hearts and souls of Youngstown Yacht Club sailors since its inception. The nine-man syndicate from Buffalo that brought her to Youngstown joined a small group of promising local sailing enthusiasts and formed the Youngstown Yacht Club. In 1936 the fledgling Club agreed to hold the L.Y.R.A. regatta in Youngstown.
YYC's Clubhouse overlooks the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. A casual grill, social lounge and patio face ample dock frontage, while our second-level restaurant features fine full-service dining with a magnificent view of the sunsets over Niagara-on-the-Lake and the mouth of the river.
Additional docking, shower and washroom amenities, yacht dry-sail area and hoist facilities, boat storage, marine repair and maintenance services, new, members' lockers and ample parking are located adjacent to the Clubhouse.Moorings and launch service are also available to members. Members of reciprocating yacht clubs are welcomed to use visiting dock space.

YYC has a strong heritage of Racing and Cruising. Many of our members are active in both fleets. Located below Niagara Falls, where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario, YYC is guarded by Old Fort Niagara. The Fort, which since the 1700's has been occupied by the French, English and now Americans, continues to serve as a strong reminder of our local heritage.

Youngstown Community Boating offers a 3 session course for adults who want to learn to sail independently or just learn the basics.
The Youngstown Yacht Club recently helped the Youngstown Sailing Foundation (YSF) raise $75,000 to buy 4 Ideal 18's. We have come to an agreement with the YSF that YYC members can use these boats, when they are not in use by the YSF. The Ideal 18's are an easy to sail boat with simplicity, comfort and performance in mind.
