Valley Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center
We are excited to announce that we have 14 providers awarded the Seattle Met Top Doc designation. Proliance Orthopedic Associates is dedicated to helping patients receive quality treatment that is tailored to their individual needs. Innovation through collaboration: we apply our surgical and non-surgical expertise with the most current technology in each patient's diagnosis and treatment plan.

Additionally, construction is now complete at our Talbot location, allowing for easy-access, convenient parking options. We thank all of our patients for your understanding during the construction phase and are pleased to offer these new free options. Additionally, some surgical cases may be postponed.
Services
Founded in 1973, Proliance Orthopedic Associates is one of the largest orthopedic clinics in greater Seattle, Renton, and Covington, WA.

Formerly known as Valley Orthopedic Associates, POA welcomes more than 50,000 patients each year, offering orthopedic surgery and general orthopedics for the hand, wrist, shoulder, elbow, foot, ankle, and spine, as well as full-body MRI imaging services, sports medicine, pain management, digital radiography, and bone densitometry.
Located on the Valley Medical Center campus, in the Talbot building, we are a full-service orthopedic clinic serving Renton, WA, and the greater Seattle area. POA Renton provides general orthopedic care, as well as orthopedic surgery and various subspecialty orthopedics.

Our mission is to provide compassionate, exceptional care to patients with orthopedic injuries and orthopedic conditions, using the best techniques and latest technologies derived from evidence-based medicine in a patient-friendly environment. We strive to respect our patients as individuals, honor our commitment to patient well-being, and be mindful of our collective responsibility to promote good health.
Orthopedic urgent care centers are a unique concept. Designed exclusively for treating acute musculoskeletal injuries, they offer specified care with a fraction of the waiting time and cost of an emergency room visit. In addition to time and money saved, orthopedic urgent care services also cut out the middleman.
A concussion results from a force transmitted to the head causing impairment in neurological function. Symptoms of concussion can vary greatly depending on the individual. Continue brain rest guidelines while you are having symptoms. When resuming everyday life, you may notice a change or worsening of your concussion symptoms.
POA Fellowship Trained Doctors focus on the proper diagnosis and treatment of neck and back conditions, whether through spine surgery or other treatments. The spine is the body's main structure, providing support and flexibility that allows you to move, turn, sit, stand, twist, stretch, and bend over.

Dr. Howlett is very kind and patient. He is also very thorough in explaining everything and what the options are. He does not push surgery on you.

I saw Wendy Nyland and not only was she extremely rude, incompetent, and aggressive, but she did not seem genuine in the care provided. I hope I can talk to her supervisor because rude employees like her should not be employed in this setting. When she walked out of the room she kicked the chair and hit my foot with it. She was so rude to the interpreter and she has a really NASTY attitude. People like her do not deserve to work in a health care setting. I did not feel safe in this place at all. If I could give it negative stars I would! DO NOT recommend Wendy Nyland at all.

I will never go back to proliance!!! Not even for my follow up!!! Dr. Novak a foot/ankle surgeon there that I went to see after a fall I had and was still having foot and ankle pain. He took an xray and looked at it and said that he didn't see anything wrong with my foot. Didn't bother to feel my foot or my ankle. Just looked at my foot and insisted he didn't see anything wrong. Went to see another foot and ankle surgeon and I explained to him what happened to my foot. He did a exam and told me that I had torn my tendon and sent me to get an mri. He fixed my torn tendon. I wouldn't recommend any

Would you think marking an “X” or “This one” on the patient, indicating the specific surgical site being addressed, might seem to be silly or excessive? You would be incorrect to think that as this is one of the many signs of serious dedicated professionals like the surgeons here at Proliance. Over the past couple decades I have had at least 3 surgeries and consulted with at least 6 surgeons here and they were all truly outstanding. They all listened carefully and when I felt the need to prepare a brief letter to try to more carefully explain some of the complexities surrounding my particular

Spare yourself the headache and pain. GO to elsewhere. Service is horrible, front desk and back office nurses are rude, over worked and lack knowledge. If you like being passed off from one person to the next this is the place for you. The doctors schedule is so booked you can’t get in for months even when your are a paying post surgery patient with pain. Also, be ready to be canceled on and moved 1 week before your appointment that you booked 3 plus months in advance. Dr. Barthal rushes you in and rushes you out, only telling you round about answers. No consistency in the diagnosis or treatments

I broke my leg in May, I was referred to Proliance Orthopedic Associates by the UW Valley ER. I love the providers, especially Dr. Merritt, they’ve been great so far, but unfortunately to get an appointment or ask the doctor or his MA a question or concern you must of course go through the front office staff and they are not well trained in the customer service area. A bunch of cranky women that seem to be having bad days on the 3 occasions I’ve called over a 2 month period pertaining to my health. I hope Debra and the other rude girls there learn to be more understanding and patient when working

Dr. Alton, his PA Shane, and the rest of the staff in Renton are just phenomenal. They're kind, attentive, and genuinely concerned with the well being of their patients. Dr. Alton did a partial replacement of my left knee, and I only missed four weeks of work! He deserves a lot of credit for that because the entire experience was stress free, allowing me to focus on healing. 😊😊😊

Proliance Orthopedic are first class. I broke my hand and they were able to see me the next day for a consultation, and were then able to schedule the surgery two days later. They have been extremely responsive and helpful with everything I need.
My surgeon, Dr. Howlett, is great. He took the time to explain the surgery and walk me through the steps. He made me feel really comfortable.
Zach Bowman, the physician assistant, has been awesome to see and work with as well. He is extremely approachable, explains everything in detail, but in a manner easily understood, and truly makes me feel welcome
