Flatirons Scuba has been training divers since 1997. We are a 5 Star PADI Instructor Development Center, offering classes and certification in all levels of scuba instruction, as well as one of the best technical diving programs in the Rocky Mountain region. Our focus on customer satisfaction has made us one of the leading scuba stores in Colorado.
We have high quality equipment available for you to rent for your next dive trip or for local diving. All of our rental equipment is less than 1 year old and meticulously maintained. This is the first level of certification. The Open Water Course consists of two steps and can be completed over two weekends. Diver training courses are meant to be fun, but like any form of learning, you will need to invest time and effort reading and studying before the class begins. Please read through the following information to help understand the Open Water Course.

First: Independent Study - The first step in reviewing your skills and knowledge is accomplished by reviewing the PADI ReActivate eLearning.
Congratulations on taking this important step towards greater enjoyment in the water, and improving your skills as a diver. By increasing your knowledge, Scuba Diving will become more natural. In the Advanced course you will make two "core" or required dives: navigation and deep. You will also make three "elective" dives that you choose with the guidance of your PADI Instructor.

Where does one begin when attempting to describe a spectacular experience? At the beginning I suppose. I was gifted scuba training in anticipation of a trip to Roatan Island, Honduras. My first contact with Flatirons Scuba was via email and it began beautifully. I received all my study materials in a timely fashion and was ready for class when the day arrived. Our instructor Barbie Elsasser was awesome! She was professional, funny, informational, has the patience of a goddess and provided a safe environment in which to learn new skill sets. She answered every question promptly and had tons of compassion

Great place to get certified via their PADI Open Water Diver Course. Everyone we've worked with has been great from Sam, our instructor, and his assistants, Mark and Carrie, who were very knowledgeable and patient as we needed some extra attention, to Greg and Rowan at the shop. We did our preliminary classes at home/online and finished with our classroom tests and confined water (pool) training and tests. Next up is our open water dives to finish our certification.

I dropped by here yesterday to look for a new mask since I was in the area. The staff was really helpful and the store was very clean and organized. I did a drysuit specialty course about 3 years ago with them and that was awesome as well. Knowledgeable instructors and nice rental gear. Would definitely recommend Flatirons Scuba to anyone already into scuba or anyone looking to get into it.

My fiance and I just completed our class instruction and confined water dives. We've passed our knowledge exams and we will be joining Flatirons in Homestead Crater in January to complete our open water dives.
We worked with our primary instructor Barbie, with help from two other instructors, Phil and Shannon, with Lisa assisting. They were incredibly patient with the class's questions and our initial failed attempts at demonstrating skills in the pool, and instilled plenty of confidence as we moved through the course. All of the students in our class passed the knowledge exam.

My husband and I went to Flatirons Scuba for the dry suit course and they were very helpful in setting up a private lesson for us on fairly short notice. Our instructor Mark really made the weekend fun and enjoyable. Mark is an outstanding instructor and adapts well to each person’s skill level and comfort. We live in South Denver and it is more than worth the drive to see Mark for any of your scuba needs. Highly recommend this shop compared to others we have dealt with in the Denver area.

I have used Flatirons Scuba to get all my diving certifications except for my original open water. Through the years the staff has always been knowledgeable, friendly, engaged and incredibly helpful. I trust them so much that I am currently taking my ten year old son there to get his open water certification.

The entire staff is simply the best. All my instructors are rock stars. Karl was the best teacher; patient, kind, made sure I understood what and why I was doing the things I was taught, and he has a great sense of humor which is always fun to be around. Getting certified to scuba dive has been a dream come true for me and I cannot wait to use the skills Karl, Mike, Dave, Reid, and Richard taught me in Australia and beyond. I adore you guys and thank you for the incredible experience. I'll be back for more!

I can't say enough positive things about this dive shop and their staff! I just completed my open water scuba certification with Flatirons Scuba and it was an awesome experience. The first weekend I completed my pool dives with Mike (instructor) and Mark (divemaster). I was nervous about scuba diving and they eased my nerves through their teaching style and encouragement. They gave me confidence going into my open water dives the following weekend. For the open water dives I went to Aurora Reservoir and completed the course under the direction of Caleb (instructor) and Nick (divemaster). I

I've been diving for about 25 years, of those, about 15 with this shop and staff. I wouldn't keep coming back if they weren't the best. They have excellent instructors if your interested in either getting your Open Water Certification or furthering your education beyond it. I highly recommend taking their Advanced and Rescue courses. I've really benefited from the training when I've been on scuba trips outside of the US with divers I'm not familiar with. I've actually had to use the training to assist other divers in distress. It felt good to know that I could help out and keep a bad situation

I took my Rescue Diver course with Flat Irons, and was very impressed with both the quality of the shop staff and the PADI instructor who taught the class, "Scuba" Jay. Jay was wonderful both in the classroom as well as during our confined dives. He is knowledgeable, has an incredible amount of experience diving and also made our classes fun while conveying rather serious topics. I would highly recommend the shop and Jay to anyone looking to get any certifications.

I started off at another scuba place. They went through things too fast and I ended up quitting thinking, I'm never going to get my certification. I signed up with Flatirons scuba and took classes from Jay Brewer. He is an amazing instructor. He is patient and wants to make sure you are comfortable in the skill before he moves on to the next thing. He is very positive and explains things clearly. I have received 2 certifications from Flatirons Scuba now (Enriched Air & Rescue Diver). Jay Brewer has instructed us in both and he is an incredible instructor. After meeting Jay in our Enriched Air Class, we knew he was the right person to do our Rescue Diver Training which is a serious course where your instructor really matters. Scuba Jay has done a wonderful job with our training and I highly recommend him and Flatirons Scuba. It is also nice to have certifications from a 5 Star PADI shop. Thank you Flatirons Scuba and Jay!

Nice-looking storefront with a good selection of quality scuba gear. Rental equipment is in good condition. Great customer service: laid-back and willing to work with you whether you have questions about gear or are looking into getting certifications. I haven't had a ton of experience with Flatirons Scuba yet, but this place compares very favorably with other dive outfitters I've visited in the Denver/Boulder area. If you're serious about diving, it's worth your time to pay Flatirons a visit.

These guys are simply the best. I have been going to Flatirons since they opened at 120th and Sheridan. I did my initial open water course at a different shop and did my advanced class with Rob from Flatirons. Great experience with a super teacher.
I have referred several friends here for instruction. I gave my nephew a class for his birthday one year. He was working as a chef. The hours he worked were basically the same as when the classes were offered, so the guys worked with him and he ended up with basically a private course.

I'm new to scuba diving and had the pleasure of receiving my PADI certification from Flatirons Scuba in Broomfield. Rob and Greg provide excellent customer service as well as top notch instructors. They were very helpful with recommending the proper equipment and even found my BCD at another dive shop when they found out it was back ordered for several weeks.
