Holden Cremation and Funeral Service is a locally owned and operated funeral home in Sparta, Missouri, to serve your family during the hardest times of our lives. Serving the greater Springfield-Branson, Missouri combined metropolitan area, we have several options available in both traditional funeral services, cremation services or a direct cremation.
Our office is open Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekends and holidays are serviced by appointment. Services
Holden Cremation and Funeral Service was opened in August of 2014 by funeral director Matthew Holden. The original structure of our building was erected in 1948 by Matthew's grandfather, Harold Brown. Harold built the building just after his discharge from the United States Air Force and opened up a service station.
We understand that making the many decisions which come at a time of loss can be difficult. We offer our support by providing you with two options as you consider making immediate arrangements. With online Arrangements, you can take your time to select the arrangements which are best for your preferences and budget.
Locally owned and operated, Holden Cremation and Funeral Service is able to keep personlization to the memory of your loved one. Our staff is on call at all hours to assist your family when needed. In our name is the word "service", and service is what we strive to deliver. We not only want families to choose us as their funeral home because of our affordable prices but also because of the high quality service they will recieve.
Holden Cremation and Funeral service is conveniently located on Missouri State Highway 14 East of downtown Sparta. On 65 Highway in Ozark take MO-F Exit (Sparta Exit), follow MO-F east 1.4 miles, continue east on MO-14 7.4 miles through Sparta, funeral home is last building on the right before the "Y" of MO-14 and MO-125.
The following is a list of choices which represent the cost of our services. They may or may not include the casket or container required for visitation or viewing, burial, entombment or cremation. A traditional funeral service with full preparations, casket, outer burial container and service in funeral home chapel.

Matthew Holden and his staff were the perfect example of compassionate professionals. Every single request I made was met with the staff going above and beyond. After initially giving them the info for my mother to be cremated I called the next day because my grandmother requested a lock of hair. When I called Matthew he was not only happy to meet this request, he asked if I'd also like finger prints. Matthew and Katrina were always happy to answer any questions or concerns I had and were even able to accommodate a short notice appointment when the urn I had ordered came earlier than I expected

I’ve thought about posting this review for a while. I’ve come to the decision that it’s necessary. Sorry we didn’t have a positive outcome. I’ve only met Matt a few times. He’s nice at first and then comes across as
insulting, condescending later. When you lay a loved one to rest, all you want is patience and empathy. I think more empathy could’ve been used. I get that it’s an affordable place, still empathy, respect should be number one with any funeral home. Not at this place. Beware. Matthew was a great help with emotional support through the grieving process when my dad passed away in 2015 even till today we are good friends I would recommend this company to anybody that would like to recieve support and understanding during the rough times after a loved one passes. We are extremely pleased with the service, staff and professionalism shown by Matthew Holden and his employees at Holden Cremation and Funeral Home. Mr. Pelter was our second family member whose cremation was handled by this wonderful facility. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outstanding service we received. There was never any attempt on the part of the staff to push us financially during our time of need and that was much appreciated.

On February 28, 2019, I received a phone call with the sad news that my sister had suddenly passed away. I live in California and my sister lived in Missouri. Since I was her closest of kin, I was immediately faced with decisions that I had no idea how to make. Fortunately, I was referred to Holden Cremation & Funeral Service. Such an emotional moment, unable to think clearly, up all night, watching a loved one pass. A call to Holden Cremation and Funeral Service and everything was taken right out of my hands easily and with care and concern. We were 4 hours from home with no idea who to call, and one of the nurses suggested Holden because she had heard the owner had worked in funeral homes for many years and was tired of seeing people hurting getting stuck with ridiculous bills, so he opened his own place so he could offer the kind of care, concern, and reasonable pricing to help people suffering a loss.
