Boulder Family Counseling
We all find ourselves in situations we didn't anticipate or experience circumstances we've never encountered. It is hard to admit we may not know what direction to head. This can be scary, overwhelming and contribute to feeling alone. During difficult times we can tend to avoid things in our lives that cause us sadness, pain, and create fear.

We often pretend everything is fine moving throughout our day saying to ourselves and everyone else that we are ok, even great. It can be helpful to talk with someone besides our family and friends.

At fourteen my parents and I found ourselves at odds. We were trapped in a power struggle with no one winning and headed for disaster. My parents' attempt to gain control blew up in our faces, creating more pain and frustration. As the rules and boundaries increased so did my rebellion, making life miserable for all of us.
College can be one of the most exciting and challenging times in our lives. For the first time, we are out on our own; no longer directly influenced by our parent's rules. We have new freedoms, experiences, relationships and opportunities. This transition from home to the college environment is not easy.
The relationship's within our family unit is a large contributor to our psychological wellbeing. Think about it. We are out in the world dealing with difficulties, work and school stress, deadlines, and todo's everyday. Coming home to family is where we most need and want to be accepted, cared for, and comforted.
Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life. Counseling can be a wonderful place to explore why you are stuck in the same cycle. It is difficult sometimes to view yourself and understand why you do the things that you do.
Breaking Down Barriers I spend my days being with people in their emotional world. I help them process and express how they are feeling, sit with their own emotions, and at times, tolerate the uncomfortableness that emotions can cause for us all. I help make sense of what they're feeling and help them see how.
