Camp Highlander
Camp Highlander is a residential summer camp in Mills River, North Carolina, devoted to the growing and nurturing of boys and girls, ages 5-16, in a safe, fun-filled, and electronics-free environment. Since 1957, we have partnered with parents and families to build character and confidence in the lives of children as we provide lifelong memories, authentic friendships, and an undeniable sense of being loved.

Girls' Camp fosters a community in which each girl is a valued member of an irreplaceable sisterhood. From riflery and kayaking, to land sports and pottery, there's no shortage of ways to have fun at Highlander.
Services
Love is the purest, simplest and most universal language. At Camp Highlander, we believe God has instilled in each one of us a desire to love and be loved. This is the motivation behind our mission - we love because God first loved us.

This is the very reason we exist; that every single person who passes through our gates will learn to truly love those around them, without hesitation or reservation, and will receive that same measure of love from everyone who calls this mountain home.Through this love, we seek to build boys and girls of courage, honesty, integrity and faith, and to help them become all that God intends them to be.
We sure are! As an ACA accredited camp we are committed to understanding and implementing policies that reflect the camping industry's recognized standards in the health, safety, and risk management. You can learn more about the American Camp Association here. Camp Highlander sits on 240 acres of pristine North Carolina wilderness.
She met so many friends, had new experiences, learned new skills, and went from not wanting to spend the night away to asking stay the entire summer in our camp letter home. Camp Highlander has been the best things for our kids. They have become more independent and more comfortable being in situations where they don't know anyone.
Today, young girls battle the pressure and temptation to forfeit their true selves in order to conform to what their culture deems valuable. Camp Highlander strives to help young girls grow into strong young women who choose courage over conformity, who know right from wrong, and who value connecting and contributing to those around them.
Your daughter may look at you with a mixture of fear and excitement. What will they think of me? What if they don't like me? What if no one wants to play with me? Our world is creating a lot of confusion about who a girl should be in order to find acceptance. At Highlander, we believe in courage over conformity.

This is the most amazing wedding venue imaginable. The staff are so hard-working and take so much pride in their beautiful camp that they make it seem effortless. From a grooms perspective, our wedding was magical. Everything just fell into place with zero stress and any requests or anything we could have wished for was instantly handled. Have your wedding at camp highlander and you and your family and friends are in for an experience of a life time :)

Both of our children have attended Camp Highlander 5 years each. They love it, we love it - you will love it. CH does a great job with administration, communication, and of course, the actual camp sessions. Our children experience 2 weeks of outdoors, friendship, challenges, pushing limits, and FUN. If you are looking for a well rounded, unpretentious and fulfilling experience for your children - Camp Highlander is the place!

First time at Camp Highlander. My 10 year old son had an amazing time. We have been home for a few days and he is still talking about all of the things they did. There are to many activity opportunities to list. We were nervous sending him for two weeks. Immediately upon entering the grounds we felt at ease. The warm and welcoming energy was felt immediately. I can't thank you enough for making our son's first two week camp experience amazing. We researched so many options and glad we picked Camp Highlander. Rob and Angie S.

First time camp mom and camper here and all I can say is that we are beyond impressed!! The communication, the time spent planning events, the pictures, the counselors, the food!! I could go on and on. We look forward to the daily pictures and the blog from Melissa! The staff at Camp Highlander definitely made us feel comfortable leaving a piece of our hearts there for two weeks. I wish I was 13 again so I could go!

Hands down - THE BEST CAMP!!! My kids have attended Highlander for 3 summers, and it is an amazing place. Not only do they have a great variety of activities which the kids love, but there is also a daily "message" that emphasizes vital life skills like self-confidence, teamwork, inclusion, and staying true to your values. My kids have grown tremendously through the physical activities and friendships they have experienced at Highlander, and also with the character-building lessons that the Camp incorporates as well. Camp Highlander is definitely lives up to it's moto "A Place like No Other."

Bryan and Melissa are absolutely amazing people and have picked an outstanding staff for camp. We attended a week long family camp session and everyone had an incredible time. The staff was accommodating and handled our 3 young (too small, typically, for a youth stay away camp) children perfectly. All activities were do-able for everyone and they all had a stellar experience. I have to say that, in my experience working at and attending summer camps, this is the most genuine, caring, attentive and competent group of staff I've ever experienced. We will be sending our kids back when they get older

For the past 9 years either my son or daughter have come to Camp Highlander and absolutely loved it.
I am surprised by reviews I read that children were bullied and not taken care of. Not at all the experience that we have had! The Staff at Camp Highlander work very hard to help children have memorable, happy experiences.
Both of my children have grown because of their experiences at Camp Highlander. They have loved the food, counselors, activities and cabin mates.
We look forward to Camp each summer!
I did a great deal of research before sending my children. Karl Alexander personally addressed

Camp Highlander is amazing. There is no word that can describe a campers love for this mountain. The counselors treat you like a sister and I made so many new friends there. Everyone comes back year after year for more fun! I miss it so much :(

As a former camper and staff member of Camp Highlander there aren't enough wonderful words to describe this camp.

Highlander is a co-ed overnight summer camp in the hills of Mills River,NC devoted to children ages 5-16. Campers come back year after year, and all year long you hear stories of children who wish they were still at camp.

The camp used to be owned by a school in south Florida, but now is owned by a wonderful family named the Alexanders.

At camp you can go swimming, hiking, there's a ropes course, horse back riding, climbing wall, arts n crafts, pottery, rec room, campfires
