Originally established in 1989 by Dr. James H. Hudson R., Rome Smiles has been a part of the dental community in Rome, Georgia for over 30 years! Our practice operates on the principle that everyone we see is treated like family. From how we speak to you and how long you wait on us to what options are available to meet your needs, we treat you as we would want to be treated.
The key to an attractive smile is regular cleanings and checkups. Our hygienists are well known for being gentle, thorough, and extremely personable. If you have been regular at having your dental checkups, that's great. If cleaning your teeth is more difficult for you, that's okay too! Our team is well trained in deep root cleanings and managing periodontitis (gum disease).
Dental implants are considered the best and most natural way to replace missing teeth. An implant takes the place of the root of the tooth, and a crown is made to replace the portion above the gums. If you are a candidate, dental implants are the most natural way to replace missing teeth. As the name implies, a dental bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the space.

Dr. Scharnhorst is a general dentist, so he has great experience in performing root canals, extractions, and many other specialty procedures so that we can treat your problem quickly and efficiently.
Caries is the scientific word for cavity. You can see in the image above how a cavity can start as a small problem and grow to a dangerous dental infection. Most of the time you will never know you have a cavity at its earliest stages. By the time you have sensitivity or a toothache the problem has become severe.

I recently visited Rome Smiles as a first-time patient this week and they were amazing! I was brought to the back shortly after arrival and they were very efficient and punctual. Carlee was so nice and totally kept me at ease during my cleaning and x-rays. Dr. Prior was also friendly and efficient as he checked everything over. Overall, I will certainly be returning and I would recommend to anyone looking for a clean, warm environment.

I left my old dentist because he wasn’t making any effort to not drill and fix or pull something every time I saw him and the last time I wasn’t numb and he started drilling and it hurt! I almost think he got too close to a nerve in the gum and it has bothered me on and off ever since then. I put off going to a dentist for 3 years because of him! I was afraid what I would find. I asked around for several months, and I looked at ratings and I gave rome smiles a try. They taught me about my teeth and how cavities work. I got my teeth a special 2 visit cleaning to undo the damage I did not going

Wonderful staff. Very kind and knowledgeable. Dr Scott was very friendly and Dr prior as well they both are great doctors. We went over many options and they helped me pick what was right for me. Also they are affordable and they offer teeth whitening and Fluoride treatments. I saw this dentist Halloween of 2019. I did NOT schedule an appointment or go ANYWHERE near this office on April 14, 2020. But miraculously, I get an invoice for April 14, 2020 of 96 dollars due. I get a written note on the invoice stating that the insurance sent me the payment?! For what? They also violated HIPAA and text me instead of another Amanda about rescheduling HER appointment! This must be HER bill! But who knows?? I'm not footing your friend's bill. I'm definitely not letting you touch my teeth! This is absurd! Now I get to report this office to the board.

We moved to Rome two years ago and being new to the area we were at the mercy of recommendations from friends and family that already lived here. Dr. Hudson was highly recommended and he and his staff was the medical professionals we contacted after our move.
Before we left our last home I had a thorough exam from my dentist of many years and he gave me his full recommendation of what my new dentist should look for and what needed attention. I didn't mention any of this during my first exam with Dr. Hudson but after his exam he made the same exact diagnosis and recommendations.
