Not Your Typical Deli is a full service delicatessen and bakery, located in Gilbert, Arizona. We showcase local products and services, including local artists, bakers and other culinary professionals, and provide guests with a unique dining and shopping experience. NYT Deli was created to make a difference, not only do we serve incredible food, we also have an integrated work environment for those with developmental disabilities.
The unemployment rate for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Arizona, is nearly 90%. It is our objective to provide capable adults with developmental disabilities, comprehensive training that will qualify them to work in the restaurant industry. Local culinary businesses will be encouraged to hire our students and they will be informed about the value that our students can bring to their business.

Went in on Saturday 1/22/2022 with my family and I ordered a Don Pastrami sandwich and DAMN WHAT A GOOD SANDWICH!!! Best pastrami sandwich I've had in my life for real! Funny thing is I love pastrami but I hate slaw so I actually pretty much just kept an open mind and asked for my slaw on the side just to try NYT's version of coleslaw. The slaw wasn't heavy at all and it didn't taste like straight mayo with no other ingredients. I actually liked NYT's slaw a lot and I ended up putting it in my Don Pastrami sandwich. I also ordered an M&M cookie that was huge and delicious

I've heard great things about this deli. I was excited to try it since the area severely lacks in this department. I ordered the pastrami sandwich and a can of soda. This came to a little over $18! Okay the sandwich was good and was seasoned well. They do like on the meat and use just the right amount of brown mustard...but almost $20 for a sandwich and a can of soda? I'm feeling inflation everywhere, gas, groceries and apparently sandwiches. Will I be back? Sure, if I get a raise or sell my kidney on the black market so I can afford to splurge again.

I have been wanting to come here for such a long time, and I will say I am pretty disappointed in my visit based on how many 5 star reviews there are! I had the Turkey Pesto and it was just ok, it didn't make me feel like I needed to go back soon. I think maybe I needed to get a different sandwich. Also the fountain drink machine was broken, which is fine but when I asked for a cup of water, I had to have a whole new transaction for a bottle of water. That was pretty disappointing.

This place is just amazing. On top of the food being great, the young men who served us our meals were super nice! We got 3 meals abd 4 desserts. HUGE SERVINGS!
Also, the the butter cake (maybe it was a pie) is so good, we got 2 a big cookie, and another dessert. We also got pizza fries, a burger and a pastrami sandwich. Try anything I bet it's all amazing

I've eaten the meatball sandwich, the spaghetti sandwich, and the Italian beef sandwich here. For the spaghetti sandwich I made sure to order it with meatballs to get some protein. It was unique but also messy. Still good though. Just be prepared to use utensils. The meatball sandwich is excellent and perfectly toasted. The Italian beef sandwich is enormous and stuffed to the brim, it's definitely going to require utensils as well. I enjoyed it though. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches here.

Have been here several times and everything we come i know why we come back. Food is great, staff is friendly and interactive.
Tuna Melt, Spaghetti Sandwich, Turkey Pesto Sandwich and the Mac and Cheese all were prepared to perfection. Don't even get me started on the baked goods for dessert...sinful! Try the peanut butter cup cookie...wow!

I've been wanting to come here for months due to A. The positive reviews and B. The fact they go out of the way to provide adults with autism with jobs.
The service was very friendly and prompt. We got the pastrami sandwich which was delicious. The meat was sliced a little thin for my taste (I like the NY thick cut which was displayed on their photo) but the flavor and rye bread they chose was delicious.
The decor is adorable and each table had real flowers on it which I thought was a nice touch. We will be back to try more than just the sandwich.

Yes yes yes! I have been sleeping on this place and not sure why it took so long to try it. We last minute decided to try this place for lunch. My husband has been here before and raves about it. I have been all about deli sandwiches and salads lately. I tried the chopped Italian salad with no cheese, no chickpeas. My husband got the pastrami sandwich and we shared the meats. Damnnnnnnnnnnnnm! Please don't sleep on this place and go get the damn pastrami! I could have eaten a TUB of the pastrami with spicy mustard. The salad was also kick @$$. I am now obsessed. Wife and I were finally able to get out on a date and we've heard so much about this place and all the great things this place represents! Hearing that #Stevo had made an appearance here we decided to give it a try! Let me tell you they did not disappoint! Can't wait to go back and try another sandwich and leave room for the massive cookie for desert!

Stopped by here with a bunch of my coworkers for lunch. Guy taking orders was super friendly and helpful. My coworkers all swear by the Reuben. I decided to try the Pastrami.
Food was delivered very quickly. The pastrami was very good. Very generous amount of pastrami and the rye bread was good. Normally I'm not a big rye fan but I enjoyed it on this sandwich.
I grabbed some of the cookies on the way out and the kids loved them. I took a bite and they were fantastic.

Only gave 3 stars because I was disappointed with my sandwich based on how the menu described it.
I ordered the caprese grilled cheese that was under the hot section. I picturer the cheese to be melted in the sandwich but it was not. The sandwich itself was tasty but I just expected a hot sandwich instead.
We ordered a side of French Fries and the dipping sauces it came with were good!
Will try another sandwich next time though! Everything else on the menu sounded good too!

Really terrific sandwiches. And LOTS of great choices so I was torn trying to decide. Online ordering was seamless, and the order was brought out to the car (still piping hot) the instant we arrived. Sergio provided great service!
Now onto the specifics... The pressed Italian pork was delicious. I've never had Italian style pulled pork, but the flavor was great and the giardiniera on top packed the perfect crunch and saltiness. The bread was light and just crispy enough from the press. The pastrami sandwich was also fantastic - yummy marbled rye piled very high with meat, so come hungry.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! Great atmosphere- community focused and comfortable. The food portions are a wonderful value for the money and shareable... or not... ha! The staff was very friendly and genuine. The cutest decor including fresh flowers on every table- a very nice touch! Food suggestions:

Saw that this place won best deli in Arizona so we had to try it. It was amazing. Hubby got the tuna melt to eat there and he got the chicken salad sandwich to go. I got the hot pastrami on an Italian roll to eat there and got the meatball sandwich to go. We got the famous chocolate chip cookie and the Reese’s stuffed cookie. Wow! Nice clean place with friendly and helpful staff. We will go back to try the pasta salad, potato salad and Mac-n-cheese.
Update 10/12/19 evening:
Just had half of my hubby’s chicken salad sandwich (but put it on thin round bread at home) and it is great. So tasty
