The company was founded 90 years ago, but our history goes back 10 generations. Hauling virgin pine logs from Petersham via horse & chain to Gloucester to be used as ship masts for sailing ships was how we got started. Now, for the last 20 years, run by Tom Mann, we focus on reclaimed lumber & granite, and also dabble in specialty lumber from the west coast and the occasional good deal on surplus building materials.
When you stop in, there will be lots of eye candy all over the yard: giant millstones, giant timbers, historic stone artifacts, and lots of choices for your next home project. This is my favorite pic! Grandma Alice on the left, and Thomas S. Mann Jr. on the right. I think the building behind the truck still bears that same paint, and don't you just love the hand stacked pine getting air dried. Our address can be confusing to some GPS apps. Make sure you reach us and don't end up in the sticks of an adjacent town.
Just one of our niche's, we find good deals. When a mill calls looking to offload some inventory, we usually can't resist. You never know what'll will be in this category: surplus asphalt shingles, porcelain tile, cement siding, short batches of lumber. You normally see these in 16' bundles elsewhere, we buy these first quality, Primed Finger Jointed bevel siding from the same mill, when they get "cut backs."
