Founded as The Simple Machine in 1979, the Charlton Sewing Center is now located in a 110 year old New England church, one of the most beautiful and historic church structures in Worcester County. The main Charlton Sewing Center floor of this building offers customers a gift shop, fabric and book store, huge thread inventory housed in the former Choir Loft, and antique sewing machines within its 2,100 square feet of retail space.
Each month a different sewing exhibit is on display set among the stained glass windows and the original pipe organ. We are also committed to strengthening the sewing, quilting, beading and textile art retail community of central Massachusetts. I look forward to serving you in the upcoming years with new product, exhibits and a continued dedication to the sewing industry.

Cathy is a wonderful person. Many years ago a Pfaff vendor squelched on lessons. She gave me the lessons for free. When I asked her why, she said "I have never regretted it when I have been kind to a person."
Her skills at machine repair are excellent. Her shop with a huge selection of wide backs is a joy. I now use wide backs for bindings, borders and of course backing. If you are a quilter don't miss this place. (no 42" fabric is sold here.)

This is a very special place- a destination. Cathy's sewing machine repair expertise is unmatched. People drive from over the state lines to bring their machines to her. IMHO, she doesn't charge enough for her mastery. The quality of materials she sells can only be matched by stores in NYC. You are in for a treat when you come to this store- if she is not too busy, Cathy will sit at the 110 year old organ and play the church music you remember as a child. She invites you to sing along. She and her staff are truly remarkable.
