I seen Mels on the Texas bucket list show and figured I’d give it a try. As soon as I pulled up I thought I had arrived at a different restaurant given that this isn’t the fanciest place but boy was I wrong. Everything’s bigger and better in Texas and these burgers are nothing short of amazing. Whichever route you decide to go in Mel’s menu you won’t be disappointed. Every native Texan must visit this place immediately!

Sometimes you appreciate a restaurant more when you go somewhere else and order similar food. We've had many good dinners at Mel's but decided to see what all the fuss was about over Goodson's on 249. We just left there after having CFS, okra, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Goodson's claims the best CFS in Texas, which it seems most places do. There is no question that Mel's is better, at least for these foods.

Great food and service is what I say about this place! The waiter was on his job today, not very personable but still did a great job. The portion sizes are huge so you definitely get your money's worth for sure and delicious to go along with that. If you're in the area I highly recommend this hidden little jewel!

Mel's is always amazing! If you're in the mood for fried food they are the BEST in Tomball. Make sure to order through their actual website if you're doing delivery so that they get to KEEP more of their money. You won't be disappointed either, this means the food gets to you FASTER and is actually HOT when it arrives. I kid you not, even a Monte Cristo is still CRUNCHY on the outside and HOT in the middle. $2 for delivery is NOTHING so make sure you TIP the driver well! You'll notice they're actually wearing a MEL'S COUNTRY CAFE t-shirt not one of those other

Wow, I love this food and the atmosphere of this restaurant. It reminds me of how Tomball used to be in the 80's. The chicken fried steak is the best in TOMBALL, (sorry to the other place that starts with a G) After being away from Tomball for a lot of years I ate at both local places and Mel's is the winner hands down.

Now I know I have written a review for Mel's before but I don't see it out there.
We like to eat at places that have that good old down-home comfort food. And Mel's has never disappointed us.
We went there around 2pm. We were thinking they would not be busy at all. Wrong, they had quite a few tables with customers. We were seated and the hostess told us it would be a few minutes for the servers. (No problem).
The server was polite and attentive.
We ordered (hubby)a cheeseburger and a grilled chicken w/veggies. The bean of the day was butter beans. My husband likes butter beans

We went to eat at Mel’s around 2:30 for a late lunch. Met by the hostess and immediately seated. Not busy at all, maybe 2 other tables in the whole place. Waited for about 10 mins for anyone to even ask what we wanted to drink. As the ladies swept, refilled the ketchup. Doing busy work. A whole table by the cashier of waitresses sitting there cackling away very loudly, as they see us sitting there waiting. Finally she got around to asking what we wanted to drink. Then “our” real waitress came around finally and took care of us. Very disappointed in the wait staff there. It just isn’t what

Immediately greeted by the hostesses and seated. We had no wait. During the week, the best time to visit is after the lunch crowd has left, typically around 1:30pm. We did not order an appetizer. My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken with fried okra, green beans and cream gravy. I ordered the fried catfish, shrimp, tater tots and coleslaw. For desert, we ordered the banana pudding which is big enough for two people. You should visit Mel's. You will 💛 it !!!

We've been eating here occasionally for the past 6 years and today will probably be the last time we go. It's gone downhill tremendously in the past year. They need to hire different people and get some friendlier faces that don't look so miserable because it's reflected in the mediocre food and cleanliness.

Not real sure what all the fuss is about here. Unless the customers are NOT ordering their catfish. The last few times we've visited the catfish "strips" are pretty skimpy, fry doesn't stay on the fish and you can tell it's not fresh.
Perhaps their other dishes are good but really, catfish is cheap and anyone can fry food. It's the easiest. There is no reason why fried catfish should be tiny strips and not cooked properly.
Not worth the money in my opinion.
My 2 cents

When most people have the notion that they have to dress appropriately for the restaurant they are goi g to, usually fancy attire comes to mind...
NOPE!... Not at Mel's...!
Instead when you know you're eating there, you make sure you don't have sleeves and the shirt can afford to suffer some damage!!!...
Reason being, the burger is going to be so perfectly cooked, flavorful, and JUICY that your elbows are goi g to drip and you're going to have problems with your motor skills as you malfunction because you thought about putting the burger down a sec and your souls said "

First visit to Mels today 7/25/21. Very very busy and very noisy. Was seated immediately. Server was very attentive. Had about 7 Sunday Specials. My husband had the Cajun catfish and shrimp Veracruz special with pinto beans and fried okra. It was good but cold. I had the fried catfish with Mac and cheese and fried okra. It was also cold. I won't go back.

If you want quick, cheap, country style cooking, you're at the right place. I ordered a monte cristo. The entire sandwich was fried, which was interesting. However, the meat used was really cheap. Something you would find at a dollar store. It threw off the whole sandwich but again, if you want a cheap bite, I guess it wouldn't bother you. The front door was left open so there were quite a few flies buzzing around while we were eating. That's my main complaint. I was in the area and don't live nearby so I probably won't be returning.

This place was highly recommended and I am not sure why. The food taste decent at best. But maybe it was a bad night, because a couple of people I know well said it was good food and we thought very differently.
Appetizer - actually, the best tasting thing we had. The fried mushrooms were tasty!
Salads - brown lettuce and topped with a bug. (See photo). After we had them take the salad, no one ever apologized, or even acknowledged that this should be unacceptable.
Main Entrees - the shrimp was small and it tasted like it has been fried in old cooking oil. The cabbage and pinto beans were

This place has been featured in a bunch of magazines and shows with great reason! When it comes to yummy fried and home style food this is a place you need to check out! They feature an all you can eat fried fish meal as well as many other country fried favorites! Their staple is their selection of burgers! They all sorts of burgers with their own touch on many different ones. If you order a burger ask about their jalapeno bread bun!
They are most well known for their Mel's diner burger challenge! This challenge was featured on Man Vs Food! The burger is a massive foot tall burger! If you can

This one very busy restaurant... there were to-go orders flying out the door as fast as they could move them. I was there at 1 pm and the inside dining was still pretty full. All of the staff I came in contact with were very nice and everyone was masked. It's terrible that masks have to be part of a restaurant's appeal, but that just how it is today.
Lunch today was the smaller chicken fried steak, smaller but far from being small, along with fresh fries and brown gravy. My sister has chicken fried steak fingers with French fries, and my nephew and his spouse both had cheeseburgers

Really has that old time down home feel. We were seated in a timely manner and our waiter was at our table quickly. The atmosphere was great, the service was awesome and friendly. The food... let's just say this you better bring your appetite because they serve Texas sizes portions here. I had the large Chicken fried steak and Boy was it large. The food is very good and more than satisfying. Wish they would bring back the sweet tea though. All in all, a great little eatery.

If you're looking for southern comfort food that leaves you satisfied and needing a nap. This is the place for you I swear! They have plenty of parking and the waiting area has a nice big fan blowing hard and cold on these hot summer days. The staff was so friendly and kind just southern hospitality you would expect. When we walked in we just knew it would have good food! I got the chicken fried steak and it was absolutely perfect! My significant other had their special BBQ burger and it was amazing. I'm not a big burger fan but even I would have ordered it!!

This was our first trip to "Mel's" after hearing about it from some local friends. They swore by the place so we figured we would check it out. Honestly it was one of the best meals I have ever had, and this place really is a true hidden gem! The service was incredible!!! Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She was patient, and didn't rush us to make our choices, etc - and at the same time was nice with giving us her recommendations, answering questions, etc. The employee's busing the table referred to us as sir and ma'am which I found impressive. Just very nice staff all around, and very courteous
