My name is Laurie Shoats and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been providing counseling in the state of Florida since 1990. In my 30 plus years of working with people, I have successfully assisted hundreds of clients in reaching their personal goals and my clients have been so responsive that they often refer their friends and family to my practice.
I use a range of approaches and interventions in my practice. The foundation of my philosophy is family systems theory, and I also utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as Solution-Focused Approach to effectively and efficiently assist my clients. Again, I named my practice Real Life Solutions Counseling, Inc. with YOUR GOALS being the focus rather, than the standard clinical approaches being taught today.
One of my specialties is Infidelity Recovery. It does not matter where you are in the process. If you suspect infidelity, just found out about it or had it happen years ago, I can help you. My approach is more of an active process of recovery vs. simply letting time go by.

Laurie helped me through a time when I was dealing with anxiety and feelings of guilt. I was comparing myself to others and this would get me down at times. With her help, I was able to identify and break these thought cycles. She taught me effective communication which has helped me professionally and in my relationships with friends and family. It can be stressful when you're trying to find a therapist. It's hard to know who's on top of things and truly knows what they're doing. I have to say that Laurie Shoats is a wonderful therapist. She really knows how to listen! She effectively helps her clients deal and progress through difficult sitations. Laurie is supportive, caring, and very easy to talk to. I highly recommend her!

My wife and I had been having marital problems for several years. A friend recommended that we go see Laurie at real life solutions counselling.
My wife suggested we try counselling even though initially I was against it.
Despite my initial reluctance , I have to admit the time and effort proved to be very beneficial.
As a guy it is not easy for me to talk about my feelings or personal things.
But after spending a few minutes with Laurie, I felt very comfortable with her.
She was able to pinpoint exactly what was going on with us by the end of the first appointment.

Ms. Shoats is professional in her approach but also very caring. She will give you the tools you need to use in your therapy rather than providing all the answers. These tools will help you deal with many of life's situations even after your therapy appointments have ceased. She can help you to understand yourself and others better.
