Jow Ga Kung Fu () is a traditional Southern Chinese martial arts named after its family. Jow Lung (1891-1919) founded the style along with his brothers Jow Hip, Jow Biu, Jow Hoy, and Jow Tin. Their Kung Fu was developed from the three systems of Hung Ga, Choy Ga, and Northern Shaolin.
Jow Ga has the head of Hung and the tail of Choy (Hung Tao Choy Mei) meaning it incorporates the mighty muscular movements of Hung Ga, the swift footwork of Choy Ga, and also the kicking of Northern Shaolin. It is a very effective form of self-defense with emphasis on simultaneous attack and defense against multiple opponents.

The Lion dance is a symbol of auspiciousness to commemorate important events such as Chinese New Year, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and grand openings. The lion chases away any negative energy with the drums and cymbals allowing a fresh start. Its powerful presence scares away evil spirits and brings good luck and strength.
We, at USJGMA, are indebted to our Si Gung, Derek Johnson, for his kindness, generosity, and love that has no end. He embodies the true spirit of Kung Fu and has devoted his life to promoting Jow Ga. We cannot thank him enough. Si Gung Derek Johnson started learning Jow Ga Kung Fu in 1978 at Master Dean Chin's school in Washington D.C. Chinatown.
Chris began his love of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts (TCMA) thanks in part to growing up watching martial arts movies in the 1980s. In the early 1990s Chris spent a period of time learning a style of Chinese Kempo which drew from various martial systems such as Fu Jow Pai, Hung Ga, and Chuan Fa.

Best school in the area. From the first time I walked in, I could tell the instructors care a great deal, and take pride in what they do. I spent a large amount of time researching local martial art schools, and I had found an excellent traditional school with wonderful instructors. I knew after the first free class I wanted to join. I was not expecting Jow Ga kung fu to be such a great stress relief. I suffer from depression and anxiety and found training to be quite therapeutic! Quite a pleasant surprise for me! I have been so impressed with the school, and instructors, my daughter has joined

My 4 yr old son started at this school back in February. He LOVES it and we are very happy he loves it! At a very young age my son is learning loyalty, discipline, kindness, respect and self defense. All very important attributes to guide him
through life. USJGMA has been the perfect environment to help teach those attributes. The instructors are all extremely friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. There is a loyal sense of camaraderie between them and the students. USJGMA is non profit so this means the instructors are not paid and the students are taught by their dedication and volunteer services

Our family has been searching high and low for a martial arts school, that was the right fit for our 5 yr old. I'm extremely happy that we found U.S. Jow Ga martial arts!! The instructors are nothing short of amazing. My kiddo instantly bonded with a few of the junior instructors, that would basically stick to his side to help him through the classes. I can't express how much that meant to me. They have become big brother's to my son, and we love them all do much! They are gentle, kind, and make learning kungfu so fun! We joined the school about 7 months ago and my kiddo looks forward to every

I came from a very disciplined martial arts school, the Shaolin Kung Fu Institute, in New Jersey studying Shaolin Northern Dragon Style (Lung Jop Pai). I trained for 5 years and spent 1 year as an instructor. That was a spectacular experience and should give context for this review.
The environment at USJGMA is very friendly, social and supportive, and very low pressure. There's a strong sense of camaraderie and rapport between students. One could feel the environment is almost too casual; however, the training regimen's intensity doesn't lose a step, and I feel right at home taking it seriously

I was so impressed with this Kung Fu school, especially compared to other martial arts schools in the area. My children are not only learning self defense but also values and Cantonese culture in a very positive environment, all for a very reasonable price. The instructors are amazing, and they have been especially patient training my four year old son. The school considers itself one big family, and the more experienced students are constantly going out of their way to assist and develop newer students. The school is also volunteer taught, meaning the instructors aren't paid, even though their

I had US Jow Ga Martial Arts do a lion dance during my wedding and it the talk of the night. I had asked that they did a brief explanation of the history of the lion dance and it really helped our guests understand what was going on. The lion dance performance was perfect, they got the crowd involved and everyone had a great time! My wedding with go down in history thanks to them!

The most amazing stress relief you can imagine! The sweat, the adrenaline rush, that amazing feeling that you're getting stronger and healthier. Then, you suddenly realize that you have become part of a group of people who genuinely care about each other, teach each other, and learn from each other. KUNG FU...THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE!

You will not find any other school like it. You come for the workout, the training, the martial art and you end up staying for the family, culture and kung fu! Three amazing Sifu's and an even more amazing Si… Gung. The only way to know what we feel is to stop in and try it out! You have nothing to lose (except for your ability to properly use your legs the following few days after)!

I love this school. You not only learn kung fu, but the rich history and culture the ancestors had to go through in order to create this art. The amount of enthusiasm in this environment inspires me to push my ability to and above my limits and I hope it does the same thing for anyone else who joins.

8 years ago I was so sick I almost did not make it out of the operating room alive. Jow Ga Kung Fu changed my life. I now take care of my health, eat right and exercise vigorously. The brothers and sisters at… our school help me keep my motivation and discipline. The family atmosphere is really something else. What we learn in class is not just Physical, the other half is Mental.
