Ann O'Malley, PhD
As a clinical psychologist licensed by the State Board of Psychology in Virginia, I have been successful in assisting in many areas of mental health, including suffering from depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship problems, career problems, parenting difficulties, behavioral disorders, trauma, and adjustment to life transitions.

During the initial consultation, I will help you define your treatment goals and discuss the type of therapy, or treatment modality, which will best work for you. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples to provide practical ways to approach some of life's most difficult challenges. With a respectful, non-judgmental and empathic therapeutic relationship a therapist, you can find new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
Services
Individual therapy is a process in which the client and the therapist meet to examine areas of emotional and social difficulties which are affecting the client. These difficulties may occur in school or work performance, in relationships, or in day to day living.

Married couples today feel increasingly isolated and are expected to manage their lives and families without the community supports that in the past were a primary resource in raising children and meeting family needs.
As a solo practitioner, I do not have the administrative resources to participate in any insurance programs. Participation in insurance programs can also be limiting in terms of treatment, specifying the type and duration of treatment the client receives. It is my goal to work with you to determine the best course of treatment for your unique needs, and I believe this is a decision that should not be impacted by insurance regulations.
A psychologist engages in talk therapy. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) who specializes in psychiatric medicine. While some psychiatrists engage in talk therapy as well as prescribing medication, their required training in talk therapy is not as extensive as a psychologist. A: Not at all.

I have been with Dr. O’Malley for almost 10 years. I am very picky about who I see so I had to search to find her. Would never go to anyone else. If she ever leaves the field of psychology I will end my sessions.

I've seen Dr. Ann for over 3 years and I highly recommend her! She's deeply intuitive, brilliant, and caring. What I appreciate most is her creative way of leading me deeper and deeper into insights. She will often help me tie several dynamics together which led to a lot of personal and emotional growth. She's been such a healing presence in my life. I think some people just have that gift. I feel lucky she's doing this work in the world.
